The origins of the Tabor Family are to be found in the county of Essex. The
Tabor name is a very common one in Essex and there are Tabor pedigrees going
back to the sixteenth century. Unfortunately, I have so far been unable to
connect my Tabor family with any certainty to any of these families.
The Unsolved Mystery of Robert Stammers Tabor
My great great grandfather was Robert Stammers Tabor (1819-1909), Headmaster
of Cheam School from 1855 to 1890. He was born in Colchester, the son of a
Robert Tabor, of whom nothing is known at present.
We know that Robert Stammers Tabor was born in 1819 in Colchester, Essex.
However, there are no baptismal records to be found for him.
However, there was a Robert
Tabor Stammers, who was christened at Saint Mary’s, St Marylebone Road, London
on 20 August 1821. The parents were Robert and Mary Ann Stammers. The similarity
in the name seems too close for coincidence.
What was going on?
