My mother's surname is Petty-Mayor as her father changed his family name from
Petty in 1930. I have traced the Pettys back to John and Susannah (nee Wright)
Petty, who were married in 1759 at Chilvers Coton in Warwickshire. They and the
next generation of Pettys (George and Ann or Hannah) lived in and around
Nuneaton, Warwickshire. George's son John was a hairdresser and moved to London.
His son George John Petty (1846-1915) and grandson Llewellyn George Petty
(1878-1942) also lived in London until Llewellyn (my grandfather) moved to
Westcliffe-on-Sea in Essex around 1922 or 1923.

London. Married Mary Ann Lott on 1 October 1840 at St Pancras Old
Church. 11 children. Their fourth child was George John. John died on 31
July 1876. Mary Ann Petty was still alive at the time of the 1881
Census. |

Reeve Davy on 27 June 1877 at St Johns, Hackney.
Four children. Their eldest was Llewellyn George. Their other son Harry
was killed in the First World War. Died January 1915. Marion Petty died
in 1949. |

Married Constance Fitzhenry on 9 June 1906
at Rectory Road Congregational Church, Clapton. Four children: Reginald
(1907-45); Kenneth (1909-87); Charles (1922-98), and Barbara (1924-
). Changed family name to Petty-Mayor in 1930. He died on 24
January 1942. |
