The Oliver Family came from Cornwall. John Oliver of Ludgvan, Cornwall was the father of Dr William Oliver. Dr Oliver of Bath was famous as a physician and the inventor of the Bath Oliver biscuit. His daughter Susannah married John Benson III.

John Oliver Parents not known. His uncle was Rector of Launceston, Cornwall. His cousin was the earlier Dr William Oliver (1659-1716), who has an entry in the DNB. Name of wife not known, but presumably is on the monument erected by Dr Oliver in memory of his parents in Sithney churchyard.
William Oliver (1695-1764) Born 4 Aug. 1695 at Ludgvan, Cornwall. Educated at Universities of Cambridge and Leyden in Holland. Doctor of Medicine. Moved to Bath in 1728. One of the Founders of the Bath Hospital. Physician. Inventor of the Bath Oliver Biscuit. Married wife Elizabeth around 1725-28. 5 children, including Susannah. Died at Bath on 17 March 1764. Buried at Weston Church, near Bath.
Susannah Oliver Born 1733. Married John Benson III. Four children. Their eldest was Catherine Benson , who married the Rev. John Wood (1764-1831).
