The Oliver Family came from Cornwall. John Oliver of Ludgvan, Cornwall was
the father of Dr William Oliver. Dr Oliver of Bath was famous as a physician and
the inventor of the Bath Oliver biscuit. His daughter Susannah married
John Benson III.

Born 4 Aug. 1695 at Ludgvan, Cornwall. Educated at Universities of
Cambridge and Leyden in Holland. Doctor of Medicine. Moved to Bath in
1728. One of the Founders of the Bath Hospital. Physician. Inventor of
the Bath Oliver Biscuit. Married wife Elizabeth around 1725-28. 5
children, including Susannah. Died at Bath on 17 March 1764. Buried at
Weston Church, near Bath. |

Four children. Their eldest was Catherine Benson , who married the
Rev. John Wood (1764-1831). |
