When bait fishing I have preferred to use the float legering method. It’s very visual method and suited for both boat use and bank fishing.  Below is part of a PAC article by Peter Robinson which shows the method well. I particularly like the incorporation of semi-fixed Korda lead clips into the rig, this worked well for me last season.
