I plan to do some still water bait fishing from the bank this season (2009) once
the temperature drops. I’ll be float legering after re-
I want to be mobile as with my lure fishing so a good load carrying system was needed, I can’t be bothering with carrying loads of kit on carp barrow!! Guy Micklewright had seen the Korum ruckbag that can be connected to a chair using two clips and the ruckbag’s straps. This appeared to be the sort of thing I was looking for meaning the only other thing to carry is a rod quiver. I also saw Dave Lumb’s review of the product and he confirmed that the chair’s tubing does not dig into the wearer’s back which was a concern.
I tried the ruckbag / chair combination on in a tackle shop and promptly bought it, I was very impressed. The chair was comfortable to sit in without being cumbersome.
I’ll update this page nearer winter after I’ve used it in anger.
“Since its introduction in 2008 the Ruckbag has taken the market by storm as anglers have recognised the significant advantages of this design compared to a traditional rucksack. Lay the ruckbag on the ground and open the main zip and all your tackle comes immediately to hand, no longer will you be rooting around for what you need in the bottom of a rucksack!
The ergonomically designed harness system means the Ruckbag can be carried long distances in total comfort like a traditional rucksack, but on the bank the harness sits off the ground, staying clean and easily to hand. With its EVA protective base the Ruckbag can be laid out on the bank protected from mud and dirt, keeping your gear clean and safe.
The Ruckbag has also been designed to be compatible with the Korum Lightweight Chair and Accessory Chair, thanks to the clever attachment system, allowing you to carry your chair on your back for the ultimate in mobility.”
• Top loading for instant access
• Ergonomic harness with chair attachment system
• Dirt resistant EVA base
• Capacity 50 litres
• 3 external ITM compatible zipped pockets
• 2 internal ITM compatible zipped pockets and 2 mesh pockets
“Ideal for the mobile angler, the Mark II Lightweight chair is approximately 30% lighter than the original Korum chair, yet is still compatible with all Korum chair accessories.
The fixed angle back and full width cover give superior comfort and the full aluminium frame incredible strength. When combined with the Korum Ruck Bag you have the perfect carry system for the roving angler who does not want to compromise on comfort or mobility.”
• Full width cover and aluminium frame for comfort
• Independently adjustable legs with full accessory compatibility
• Levelling mud feet and vertical legs give perfect positioning even on steep banks
• Supplied with free carry strap

Please note: Korum lightweight chair shown is the mark I version, the mark II is available now and shown below.

One essential addition in my opinion is a rucksack chest strap as seen on most hill walking rucksacks. A chest strap really helps with stability on any type of rucksack, also preventing it slipping low on the wearer’s back.
Just attach it through the lowest loops on the ruckbag’s padded straps.
I bought the one shown above for about £3.00.
Korum Two & Five Rod Quiver
To finish the set off I wanted a lightweight rod holdall to take two rods and another for four rods. The Korum range again is top quality, and as Dave mentioned in his review of the five rod version, is perfectly balanced. Perfect balance is something that I have not seen before surprisingly!
Inside I keep a lightweight umbrella (Match angler size, to keep the weight down), landing net and rod rests.
“Designed for the mobile angler. Ultra light compact design and perfectly balanced. The Velcro straps for attaching the rods to the quiver are simplicity itself.”
• Takes 2 or 5 rods
• Quick release Velcro system
• Reinforced base
• Adjustable carrying system for perfect balance
• Separate storage for umbrella, net and zipped bank stick storage
