Windows can be supplied glazed or unglazed. We use traditional putty glazing and can fit standard glass, double glazing and "New old glass" especially designed to look like antique glass with all its imperfections and dimples.

We can try and match moulding profiles on mullions and glazing bars to match existing windows or the period detail you are trying to achieve. There are numerous types of mullions in both timber and stone which maybe found in old buildings

(A) Is hollow chamfered and has a glazing rebate which maybe on the outside only or on the inside aswell. (B) Is splayed and rebated for lead glazing. (C) Is plane chamfered without a rebate and is not intended for glazing. (D) Is a pattern seen in the late 16th century but particularly in the second half of the 17th century. It is an ovolo moulding and rebated for glass. (E) Another typical late 17th and early 18th century section. The glazing rebates are fairly minimal and bring the glass almost flush with the ouside face of the mullion inside pinched looking flush beads decorate the edges.

(F) Is a reserved chamfer mullion for glazing sometimes used in the late 16th century.Too much reliance should not be placed on the designs of (A),(B),(C) when dating a window; while (D) and (E) are more consistent,

Lambs tounge, ogee, gothic, ovolo - the four most widely used glazing bar sections in old buildings. These drawings are only a guide to their general outline and should be proportioned and adapted according to circumstances.

Our basic product is supplied unfinished (bare wood) for painting or varnishing on site.

Repainting your windows every five to seven years will keep them well maintained.

Using micro-porus paints may make maintenance easier. The painted timber will need a wipe over to clean before applying just one coat of paint.

When painting windows care needs to be taken to ensuire there is not a build up of paint in corners of the frame that might make opening and closing the windows difficult.
