About ourselves
The people at Zion Baptist Church are best described as an evangelical gathering of Christians who are modernistic in their vision, exciting in their worship and have a real zeal in involving their community with their fellowship.
They have modernised their Church, both physically and spiritually and welcome families and single people to share in their vision of a Church that brings the Gospel to the people in the surrounding area in a wide variety of ways.
Sunday morning Worship
at 10..45 am encompasses lively music through their seven strong Music Team `In 2 Deep', some of the most potent Christian speakers in the area and a junior Sunday Club to cater for the children.
On the first of the month there is a family service aimed at encouraging non-Christians to Church and the children usually take a special part in the service.
On the first Sunday evening of the month is a special musical extravaganza where the music team, really do let their hair down and all levels of people share the latest `Hill Songs' and other modern songs currently in the charts. As they have recently fitted new `disco lighting and sound equipment' people are guaranteed to stay awake…
There are various activities throughout the week, Bible studies, Prayer meetings, House groups, Alpha groups two youth clubs, music practice etc. etc.
Youth Clubs:
There are two youth Clubs, one which caters for the five to nine year olds and the other for ten to sixteen year old. Both clubs have the benefit of really first class equipment, as we believe that an investment in youth activities is one of the first steps into a balanced grown up. Facilities include Pool, Table tennis, Ps2 Computer games, Karaoke machine, dance step machines, board games and a `tuck shop'.
The Youth Team includes professional Youth workers and they also organise supervised trips to various venues.
As a part of the redevelopment to the Church they have opened up the idea of a `one day a week Church' to one that has various activities that are at the heart of a flourishing Community, with a £230,000 grant they have extended the rear of the Church and called the area of this work The Eastside Centre.
The Eastside Centre is really designed to get young people `Of the Streets' and it has now become, just that.
Off the Streets Project now encompasses:
Home start Ashfield is an organisation designed to give new young families a better start in life and supports them in a variety of ways.
SureStart Ashfield in a National concern again aimed at supporting emerging families and parents with a wide range of activities to give both training and encouragement alike to families who live in the immediate area.
West Nott's Technical College uses the venue for computer training (CLAIT) as well as other educational training courses for parents who cannot go to college themselves, but they can, as the other user groups bring their children along to the crèche provided.
Youth Community & Play from Nott's County Council hold sessions for young children called `Zion Tot's, again this is for emerging parents to get a little help along the way discussing and acting upon parental problems etc by trained staff.
Zion Parent & Toddler Group is purely to bring your child along to share, with other parents, to teach their children to mix with other children and use the excellent play facilities provided
