My new toy

My radial arm saw extension has turned up. Oo the excitement of it. I had to convince Val to nip over to Aldershot to pick it up so I'd have something to play with when I got home.

Finished reading the Gospel according to John on the train this evening. It turns over Val has a modern English bible so reading it is nothing like as heavy going as I thought it would be.

Alpha Course

This weeks course was on how to read the bible so we all ended up agreeing to try reading the bible using the official Alpha course 30-day introduction to reading the bible. We've also agreed to attend the all day session on March 8th. What on earth are we going to talk about? If we don't believe by this point in the course I'm not sure we can take the discussion much further than it's gone already.

Exciting things like as what I have done this week

So what exciting things have I been up to recently? Well last week was spent mainly ill with the flu so I wasn't doing lot then. Mined ewe, I did get to watch a lot of day time TV; I think I could quite get used to this not working lark. Still, it wasn't to be and I was back at work on Monday.

Monday also saw me attending week 3 of the Alpha course. This weeks lesson was why we should believe in god. I think it pre-supposed a certain amount of belief already. Apparently, Jesus is knocking at your door and will come in if you open it (make's him sound a bit like a Jehovah's Witness, but I restrained from pointing that out).

This week, they also left out some books that compliment the course so I read the chapter on homosexuality, expecting it to be a source of bigotry and amusement, in the coffee break. I wasn't disappointed: if you replaced the word homosexuality with your favourite minority, you'd have a document written by the BNP. But these are Christians, of course, so condescending bigotry, selective quoting from the BMA and a strange belief in irrelevant statistics is fine.

The Men They Couldn't Hang

Jon, Val and I went to see TMTCH on Friday night. It was a Brentford football club of all places. I woke up Saturday with a hang over (brought on, I assumed, by drinking gurly lager). By Saturday night I still felt crap and have come to the conclusion I've unfairly maligned Grolsh and I have, in fact, got the flu.

Why couldn't I get it on Monday instead of wasting a weekend being ill?

One of Val's relatives (Sheila, in case you wanted to know) said she liked my spoof diary. I'm sorry to say, this really is my life.
