Charnborough Irish Red and White Setters

In the beginning . . . . . . .

My first Red and White was Smartie, Firemiss of Shannonlee at Charnborough born in 1980, I had seen Meudon Amber Glow at a show, instantly fell in love with him and booked a puppy to join my two Irish Reds and that was it!

Smartie as a youngster

To get the Red and Whites off the ground Smartie was campaigned all over the country in classes for Any Variety as there were no Breed Classes. In 1982 she was mated to Meiklered Hi-Wayman, this was the first litter born in the UK from two English bred parents and produced Bonnie, Charnborough Cheri.

On the day when Green Stars were reinstated for the breed at the Irish Kennel Club Show in 1983 Bonnie won the Reserve Green Star and went on later in the year to win the Green Star at Killarney.  She had two litters, one to Glenkeen Shane which produced Charnborough Contender who gained 8 Championship Show Reserve Best of Sex's before CC's, and one litter to Bilbro Georgius which produced Charnborough High Society who won 2 Reserve CC's.  Bonnie's showing career spanned 14 years and she was last exhibited in 1995, where she was still able to show everyone how a true setter should move!
