Since 14th November 2002 the driving theory test has changed. There are now two parts to the Theory Test, the multiple choice questions and the hazard perception test. As well as answering 35 multiple choice questions, you are also tested for hazard perception skills. You will need to pass both parts of the test at the same sitting to pass your theory. You cannot book a practical test until you have passed your theory test. A great deal of what we call driving theory is common sense. However to become a Safer Driver you must know and understand many other aspects of driving, like vehicle handling, safety margins and the rules of the road.
Passing the Theory test is the first stage in becoming a safer driver. The theory
test is a touch screen computer test. Questions will appear on the computer
screen one at a time and you select the answers simply by touching the
screen. You can return to any of the questions later and change the
answers. There are 35 questions of
which you must get 30
or more correct in 40
minutes. After a break
of up to 3 minutes, the hazard perception part will start. You will be
shown a tutorial video first. This uses sample footage with a sound track
(headphones are supplied), which will explain how to complete this part of
the test. You may repeat the tutorial once more if you wish. You can now book your test online at http://www.dsa.gov.uk If you have any special needs or reading difficulties then help is available. At the TURNFORD SCHOOL OF MOTORING I offer structured theory training which includes mock theory test papers and also computer based training. Virtually everything you need to know is in the Highway Code which I provide FREE of charge with your 1st lesson. Altogether making the Theory Test a less stressful experience.
