Sulmona
Sulmona, a short bus ride or drive down from Pacentro, in the valley, is the home of sugared almonds. It is a bustling town with a very impressive passagiata, where everyone turns out each evening to stroll up and down. It was the birthplace of Ovid and dates back to Roman times. There's an Archaeological Museum with several Roman exhibits and the Museum of Abruzzo-Molise and good restaurants. There is also theatre and cinema and several festivals that involve jousting and carrying images through the streets. The information centre beside the Church of S.S. Annunziata in the main Corso, has details of events.
