Restaurants in Pacentro
The restaurants in Pacentro are all excellent, with freshly prepared food, and seem to us to be very good value compared with other parts of Italy.
- La Furnacella – In summer (May – September) La Furnacella moves up above the castello on via Montale, the road that goes up to Passo Leonardo. It is a lovely walk up through the village to La Furnacella and if you sit outside in the evening you can watch the sun go down over the Apennines across the Peligna Valley followed by floodlights on the castello - quite an experience. The food is excellent. The rest of the year La Furnacella is down some steps in Piazza del Popolo. It is always cosy and serves wonderful food. Their Montepulciano d'Abruzzo is the best we have ever tasted. Sunset from the Furnacella August 2008
- Taverna dei Caldora – Piazza Umberto I. This is the world famous slow food restaurant which has won many international awards. There is no menu, although you are offered choices at certain points in the evening. The meal involves trying very many delicious things and is quite an experience. It is also extremely filling so we suggest that you share dishes. See more at http://www.360gradi.info/abruzzo/ristorante.php?IDInserzione=940
- Pizzaria La Fonte – Piazza del Popolo. Very good food. We recommend the antipasto Fantasia and also the Faggottino a special type of folded over pizza.
- Zio Carlo – This serves very good food and is often open on Mondays when other restaurants seem to be shut. The entrance is in the archway next to the church of Santa Maria Maggiore, in Piazza del Popolo
- Locanda della Maella – located in via Santa Maria Maggiore (the main street of Pacentro between the two Piazzas).
- Pizzaria – there is a pizzaria which opens only on Friday and Saturday in Piazza Umberto I. We have not tried I but assume it is good. (everywhere else is!!)
Restaurants a short drive from Pacentro down the hill
- Rocca Mascarella – about 4 km away, an agriturismo where they cook their own farm produce
- Posta Pacentrana – about 7 km away - The owner/chef is the brother of the owner/chef at the Caldora, and their food is equally good especially the seemingly endless antipasta. http://www.postapacentrana.it/
