RAIL INFRASTRUCTURE
Sidings close to Norwich station have been electrified to stable passenger rolling stock
With sidings heavily utilised at Norwich Crown Point depot, it has become necessary to stable more stock closer to Norwich
station. As a result electrification masts and wires have been erected over two short sidings (Royal Dock and its immediate neighbour)
next to the station. These had not been electirfied previously as they were too short for a loco and rake of coaches. However, there
is speculation that the sidings will be used to stable EMUs in the future.
Track renewal of Ely-Norwich prioritied over Bittern Line
Network Rail has decided to bring forward the renewal of the track between Ely and Norwich, which will see speed restrictions removed.
This will mean faster Norwich-Liverpool services for East Midlands Trains. However, this decision has come at a price: the track renewals
on the Bittern Line between North Walsham and Cromer Junction is being pushed back frmo 2009/10 to 2010/11 if not later. The track between
Cromer and Sheringham had been completely relaid in the last couple of years.
