FARES - How can I reduce the cost of travelling by train?

Visit http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/travel/cheap-train-tickets
to learn ways of reducing the cost of train travel, particularly longer journeys.

Also visit http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/deals/cheap-coach-train-ticket-deals
to find out about special, often short-term, rail fare offers.

If you happen to be makding several expensive journeys in the same week (or fortnight) then it may be cheaper to buy the All-Line Rover, which offers unlimited travel on the British rail network (although some peak-time restrictions do apply, and certain routes such as the Heathrow Express and Eurostar are not considered part of the network). See: http://www.railrover.org/pages/all-line.html for details.

TAXI - How do I find out the details of a taxi company at my destination station?

At smaller stations where there is not a taxi rank, or even at larger stations where there is but no taxis are waiting, there will hopefully be a notice board at the station with telephone numbers of local taxi companies.

If you have access to the internet why not find out the taxi company detials before you travel. Simply go to http://www.traintaxi.co.uk and enter your destination station.
