Mothering Sunday

April 1948

THE PAST MONTH

Mothering Sunday. The special afternoon service was attended by well over a hundred people of all ages. We were pleased to see a good many Fathers, as well as Mothers and children. Although we were disappointed at not being able to have Holy Baptism as the chief element of the Festival (no baby was available), all enjoyed the service worked out for the occasion. Mothers and God-mothers were given a bunch of Violets by their children, and joined in the procession. The Vicar spoke about our earthly and heavenly homes, about mother (whose life is like a Simnel cake, partly plain and partly rich and exciting) and 'mother church'. At the end of the service every one was given a piece of the Simnel cake.
