This page contains information about rehearsals, in particular about any late changes to location and timing of rehearsals and, additionally, the dress requirements for concerts.

Spring Term 2010

All rehearsals will be at The Leys School unless otherwise stated. For your convenience a printable map to reach the school can be downloaded from here.

Rehearsal Dates for this term

  January     18, 25
  February     1, 8, 15

Listening source on last.fm (Audio only)
The link to the lst.fm site where these tracks can be listened to is:
Chichester Psalms/On the Waterfront
This is a NAXOS CD in their American Classics series.

Choraline recording
There is a Choraline practice recording for the Chichester Psalms (but not the Chilcott) the starting link is:
Buy Choraline recordings

On this page click on the browse catalogue link early in the page, then click on the Chichester Psalms link and then just click on the voice recording type you want. If the score has two voices i.e. first and second bass - the recording gives you both parts. Cost will be £ 9.50.

Webmaster footnote:

The Choraline CD I ordered in the early hours of Monday morning arrived on Tuesday. So there's no shortage - you should have no problems if you order one.

Online Resources (Others)
The Cyberbass project is a free online rehearsal site that provide midi files** that can be listened to online. The aim of the project is to provide rehearsal scores and, obviously, is in the business to make money - it's possible to order CDs of the midi files but at 25$ per disc voice it is more expensive than Choraline to buy. They provide separate voiced versions of the files - same full music but with the levels adjusted so that the chosen voice is loudest in the mix. However listening online is free - the site for the Chichester Psalms is:
Chichester Psalms

On the page scroll down to where the voice part links are and then click on the appropriate movement and voice. Windows Media Player (or whatever midi player is set up on your PC) will then do the rest and play the track. IF your PC uses Windows Media Player the speed controls should work - the speed is currently set at 100 (%) but can be slowed or increased in speed by typing in a smaller or larger number (the link "Player Controls" pops up a window explaining the limits of the settings).

Please note Cyberbass's statement on use of their site: "CyberBass is a free service. The use of these MIDI tracks does not violate copyright laws. This tracks used on CyberBass are meant to be used with a musical score in hand. CyberBass tracks are in no way meant to replace these scores or live recordings of the works they represent."

Whilst listening on the site is probably fine from a copyright point of view downloading the midi files to your own machine may be technically "piracy" as cyberbass sells these - particularly if those copies were further distributed e.g. to other choir members. Please don't do it.

** Author note: MIDI files are text files that are a record of the musical voice used, its pitch, style and time duration of notes in a piece; basically a set of commands to a music synthesizer on how to recreate it. The midi player in your PC then uses it's sound generation capabilities to recreate the music. Most PCs have this already set up in Windows Media player.

Are you ready for a Messiah-based smirk?

One of the members brought the "Le Freres de St Francis de la Sissies" performance of the Hallelujah Chorus to our attention. The monastic order concerned is, of course, a silent order.

Unfortunately the original link sent (this one) is too indistinct to see exactly whats's going on. I've since located a later performance by the same folks, this time in the Boston Gay Mens Choir Christmas concert in 2008 - the link to the Youtube video is here. I hope you enjoy watching.
