Founded by Chris Spencer at the beginning of the 21st Century and based in Hornchurch, Essex,
Material Girls is a group of 12 talented and bubbly Textile Artists who meet together fortnightly
to share their skills, pursue projects and exhibit together deep in the darkest suburbs.

      The group aims to:
            Share and increase textile skills
            Participate in group projects
            Exhibit regularly
            Educate and promote Textile Arts in the community
            Enjoy and encourage enjoyment of the wonderful world of the Textile Arts

Members skills cover all aspects of the textile arts - Free, Traditional and Experimental Embroidery, Fabric Painting, Batik, Machine Embroidery, Weaving, Knitting, Patchwork and Quilting and Felt Making. Members also teach, sell their work and work to commission.

After passing City and Guilds Fashion Parts 1 and 2 and City and Guilds Adult Education Cert, I taught dressmaking and Patchwork and Quilting. I am now making minatures quilts and am interested in many other stitching techniques having recently tried Silk Painting, Goldwork and Beadwork.
