Futsal MN10 8 The ill Men 1
The ill Men struggled in the first five minutes of this game and it set the tone for a surprisingly easy victory for MN10. In fairness, many of the Ill Men walked straight in and, without a warm-up, found they were playing – they had been scheduled to kick off later but a mix up had forced them on for an earlier game. But I don’t want to take anything away from MN10 who were led from the front by Captain Matty Norris. Another superb performance by Kier Sanderson in goal had him vying for Man of the Match but this week it has to go to Bobby Smith whose overall performance was solid and whose precious moment of individual skill culminating in a goal (some called it brilliant, others called it spawny) would have graced any football stage.

With both teams looking as if they had eaten too many Easter Eggs, this game started slowly! In fact it was like watching a chess game for the first five minutes with both teams eyeing each other carefully and neither being prepared to make a gambit. However, we were lulled into a false sense of security as the game soon gathered pace and by half-time the match was at full pace. Leeds Fives had Kier Sanderson to thank for his superb goalkeeping which could only be beaten by the very highest quality goals, half of which were supplied by the Rob Oxley, who despite having a quiet game, still scored four goals!! Ben Honeyman with his usual, casual panache was able to carve through the most miniscule of gaps in the Leeds Fives defence and he set up most of the goals as well as scoring one himself. And Ben would have won Man of the Match had it not been for the superb skill and awareness of 16 year old Ryan Jepson of Leeds Fives, to whom this week’s accolade goes.
