futsal-leeds.org working with local schools

(Futsal-leeds.org is still awaiting the outcome of an application for funds to quote in primary schools- so watch this space for details)

But good news for High Schools! (15/02/2007)

West Riding County FA has now now made available to us funding to coach within High Schools. We can provide curricular coaching sessions which will enable students to play and enjoy the game. Thereafter we will provide support to help form teams and play in competitions against other schools. We will also be available to provide continuing support to enable futsal become an established sport at each school.

So how will the school coaching be organised?

Futsal qualified and CRB checked coaches will provide the coaching sessions. In order that the largest number of schools benefit from the funding available the coaching will take the following format:

Stage 1 - Introductory coaching

This first session would be run jointly with 4 or 5 schools. Year 12 & 13 students, with an interest in sport, will be coached on the basics of the game. The students would be then asked if they wish to develop the game within their school and working with their Heads of P.E., to consider which age groups should be involved. (The WRCFA funding is specifically targeting Years 8 & 9 but we would hope to involve as many age groups as possible).

Stage 2 – Coaching in individual High Schools

The futsal coaches will visit High Schools and working with year 12 & 13 students and their PE teachers, deliver up to 4 coaching sessions to the age groups selected. A coaching course, leading to a futsal qualification would also be made available to the supervising students and/or teachers. After this period we would anticipate that a school will be able to provide continuing coaching themselves, form teams and play games against other high schools.

Stage 3 – Participation and ongoing support.

futsal-leeds.org will arrange competitions between schools and provide continuing support to ensure that futsal continues to be played at High Schools in your area. Any school which develops a serious interest in the game can also become involved in the futsal-leeds.org open leagues, should they wish. (This would involve weekend games so parental involvement/support may be requirement but this could be factored in at Stage 2)

So how can your school become involved?

At the moment participation is by invitation. However, if you believe that your school should be involved and you have not been contacted let us know. Ask your Head of P.E. to contact us on the e-mail address below
