Richard Dunn Sports Centre 10 February2008

Futsal Yorkshire organized a Brazilan Futsal Gala at The Richard Dunn Centre. In the morning a friendly tournament was held for U 12 and U 13 Girls to promote the game.

At U12 Level there were 6 teams taking part. They played each other on a round robin basis. The teams were FC Barsa (made up of Wigton Moor players), Burley Trojans, Thackley, Shelf, Gomersal and Cleckheaton and Horsforth St Margarets. No scores were recorded and the emphasis was purely on having fun and taking part.

At U 13 Level there were 8 teams competing in 2 groups. Batley Heat provide both finalists.Teams came from further afield, including a side from Doncaster Belles.
The standard of play with both sets of girls was very high. It is hoped that it will be possible to form out of football season girls Futsal leagues in the West Yorkshire area stating next month.

There were also demonstration games featuring U12 and U16 boys teams.

At the end of the day an open age friendly match was played, the first ever at this level in West Yorkshire. Due to late injuries local team FC Barsa fielded a scratch side against a revitalised Manchester FC who had 2 Brazilians and several Eastern europeans playing in their side. (This being their new squad for the FA National Conference League which began on 2nd March). So whilst Barsa took the lead eventually the Manchester strength in depth enabled them them to win the game. However, the main winner was futsal. Futsalyorkshire were able to show that the Richard Dunn Centre can stage adult futsal games and hope to be able to use the venue again for future important futsal fixtures.

FC Barsa are themselves recruiting and arranging trials for new players and hope to get revenge when they next play Manchester FC in the new FA league. Anyone who wishes to be considered as a potential new player can make contact via newplayers@futsalyorkshire.org
