Under 10 Boys - 13 May 2007
The new leagues kicked off at Carr Manor High School with a four team round robin competition between Wigton Moor and Footy Skool - who are based in Wortley.
Whilst neither side had played futsal before, Wigton did hold the advantage as they were an existing club team. Howvever the Footy Skool players heads never dropped and during the course of the 6 games they steadily improved and began to grasp the basics of the futsal game.
Parents and players all enjoyed the futsal experience and expressed an interest to be involved in more tournaments of the same - soon!
Under 11 Girls - 3 June 2007
This particular tournament took place at Batley Grammar School, as the usual venue was closed for the school holiday.. Futsal-leeds.org would like to thank them and Howard and Gill Bowden for making this available - and removing the exam desks occupying the sports hall!
This was a four team competition involving Wigton Moor, Howden Clough, Burley in Wharfedale and West End. Wigton Moor, being unbeaten throughout, were eventual winners showing that the futsal sessions used in Wigton's training had been of benefit.
The other 3 teams had not played futsal before but once again, through the 12 ten minute game competition, showed an understanding of the futsal basics. Throughout the spectators were very enthusiastic applauding good play and getting well into the spirit of the competition.
There were a number of well crafted goals which linger in the mind but the most outstanding performance came from the West End goalkeeper who having fallen awkwardly in a game against Wigton, injurying her arm, had to retire. She returned to the field in a later match, again against Wigton and literally through herself into the game making some remarkably brave saves.
This was another positive futsal event and the players, managers and spectators all were interested in future similar events.
