It's not
long until the AGM now, I have had a couple of
procedural points from Graham Campling that you need to
know.
i) The 2009 NMSC
Committee voting forms sent to members will only be
counted if delivered in person by NMSC 2008 licence
holders at the AGM. Postal votes will not be
counted.
ii) Members
planning to attend the AGM are reminded to bring
their NMSC 2008 Licence with them to use as a voting
card.

Well
that's the end of another points scoring season,
Congratulations to Jack Aldridge in taking the National
points championship, despite being pushed to the last
race of the season by Billy Webster. I was a little disappointed to see that a "thread" on "allstox"
congratulating Jack on his Points Title, had to be
locked due to the posting of some members, I hope Jack
gets the true recognition he deserves.

I'm led to
believe that several ex National MiniStox Club drivers
will be making thier F1 debut's at the BSCDA Gala
meeting at Birmingham on Saturday night. one one of them
is ex #70 Michael Steward who has already had a go in a
V8 Stockcar. (A note from Michael's Dad)
Michael will be racing a formula 1, at the Birmingham
gala meeting. He is racing one of fwj’s cars, with the
same number he currently has in the V8’s number 512,
which he has shown some good results this season.
Other drivers are believed to
be 125 Josh Coleman ex 5, 320 Georgia Neachell, ex 322.
And making a rare appearance in F1 385 Steve Thompson
ex #170
now racing National
Hotrods

Two
championships in one weekend, & what a difference in the
conditions, Seems I picked the short straw in choosing
Coventry for the Winternationals, Brandon & I were
soaked when we got home. Congratulations to #2 Sam Daley
on taking both the Winternational 1st and the
Northwestern. My apologies to those who wanted to race
the final at Coventry, but the promoter deemed the
conditions as unsafe.

Advance
warning from Coventry regarding the 1st of November
fixture. The promoter
wants to honour our fixture but is struggling with the
number of races to fit in on the night - 7/8 BriSCA F1
races plus four races for the V8 Hotstox "British" plus
our races. As a result, we are limited to three "all-in"
races and approx 25/26 drivers racing (additional
drivers will go on to a reserve list). A 6:30pm start
time has been published but our first race may be pushed
forward to 6:15. Any race stoppage with just a few
laps to go may mean the result being declared at that
point. |
 |
The date
of the Annual presentation has been set as Saturday 13th
December 2008 the venue will be the same as last year:-
The Durham Ox Hotel A46 Six Hills Leicester. More
details will follow as soon as I have them.
|
 |
Drivers are reminded
that carrying a fire extinguisher in their car is
compulsory - see NMSC Rules 2008/Page 9/Car Spec
& Construction/Rule 35.
|
 |
Following
problems with late-booked Blue grade drivers starting in
front of the White grade, a different solution is to be
applied with late bookings. With immediate effect, any
drivers booking in late will start ALL races at the back
of the grid (ie immediately in front of the Novice
drivers) irrespective of any points scored during the
meeting. |

NMSC British Open at

race in all three heats, but not the British

A couple
of months ago I told you all about Chase Herholdt, who
races a Mini over in South Africa. I've enclosed an
update from his Dad, it is a month out of date, my
apologies for not getting round to publishing it
earlier.
I have
attached some pictures of Chase. He has just become
the only 8 year old dirt oval track driver to win a
championship. Our chairman and promotors are in the
process of confirming that he is the youngest driver
in the world to start racing at the age of 6 and
then has become the youngest driver to win a
championship.
We are
very proud of him and are looking at taking him to
other areas in the world to race. He is super
talented and thoroughly enjoys talking to any
driver, young and old, on driving styles, car set
ups etc, and we would love to bring him over to chat
and spend some time and learn more from the kids and
drivers on your side.

Could all drivers to let us know if they're
taking part in the fancy dress carnival parade at Skegness on Saturday. It'll
help with sorting out the 2/3 heat split.
Email Graham.
|
 |
Please note the fixture scheduled for Barford on
Sunday 20th July has had to be cancelled. This has
been caused by the track being damaged due to last
Sundays water logging. |
 |
Our next meeting is
at Skegness Stadium on Saturday 19th July. This
is the Skegness Carnival meeting. Hazel. would
like as many teams as possible to take part in
the Carnival Parade. Here's the link to the
Carnival page of the Skegness website
http://skegness-stadium.oppositelockforum.com/summer/special1.htm
To encourage as
many MiniStox teams as possible to take part
in the fancy dress carnival parade, there's
going to be a trophy for the best team
effort. We'll be asking the track staff in
race control to make the choice. Hopefully, we will get a few pics of the
teams in their parade outfits - and
particularly the winning team with their
trophy, to add to the NMSC Gallery
Just
to let you know we will be running three heats &
final for Minis on carnival night. There will be
a parade at 6pm please ask as many as possible
to take part in it.
Thanks Hazel |

JACKLYN ELLIS #111 has had some good publicity in
her local papers The Sheffield Star & The Barnsley
Chronicle. Text is from the Sheffield Star & the
Cutting & picture are from the Barnsley Chronicle
DON'T tell
jokes about women drivers in front of Jacklyn Ellis
- you might get crash, bang, walloped. Thing is she
doesn't find them in the slightest bit funny. Not
only that but she could certainly show most blokes
how to drive.
To prove the point Jacklyn won the Yorkshire Shield
Stock Car Championship at Owlerton Stadium when she
beat off the challenge of 25, mainly male,
competitors.
Throwing her Barbie-pink Mini stock car around a
tight track at speeds topping 60mph is something
this girl has no problem with." I used to get a
little nervous," says the Darton High School girl.
"But not any more even though have had the odd
crash. I've rolled it three times and I hit a fence
backwards once - that bruised all my spine. "But
you've just got to get on with it, get back behind
the wheel. There's no point being nervous about it."
Jacklyn helped her dad Chris, himself a stockcar
racing driver for 20 years, build her specially
reinforced mini. "I've been around racing all my
life and one day I'd like to be red roof driver -
you only get a red roof when you are at the very
top." Jacklyn is getting there fast, even though she
failed to finish at the British Stock Car
Championships held in Skegness last weekend. She was
leading the race when there was an accident. Then
after the restart her finely tuned car developed a
heating problem and she had to retire.
Her dad Chris says: "She's learning all the time,"
he said. "Some people ask if I get nervous watching
her and I say well no not really. Her mum Louise
does though, in fact she gets so bad that sometimes
she can be physically sick." Away from racing,
Jacklyn is being fast tracked for academic success.
Next year she will be studying law, sociology and
business studies at A-level before she aims to go to
university. "I'd like one day to become a lawyer,"
she says. Now that's a great way to earn a fast
buck.

At Kings
Lynn on Saturday night 2 drivers had to go to hospital,
Sarah Skeels #6 came into heavy contact with the wall
and then another car crashed into her. The other
casualty was Melika Moore #108 who was going round turn
3/4 when the back outside tyre burst throwing her up the
wall. Both drivers are okay now with Sarah having
crutches, having pulled the tendons in her foot and
Melika has her arm in a sling having badly bruised it. |
 |
Just a
reminder to all drivers as you are preparing your cars
for the new season, Rule 16 on page 16 of your rule book
contains the following lines. No other roof colours are allowed. There will be no
signwriting on the car roof. That means your
roof should be painted in a classic & true shade of your
graded position. And the only other item on the roof
should be your number fin & flashing lights (if you are a
superstar). There should no names or writing of any sort
on the roof area. |

Many
thanks to Barnsley recovery who will be sponsoring the
Yorkshire shield meeting at Sheffield on Monday 5th May.

A few NMSC teams will
still remember Alinka Campling from her time racing
NMSC #13 (they probably still have nightmares!) so I
thought you might like see this report.
Since retiring from the NMSC, Alinka has been training as an apprentice
vehicle mechanic. She attends Grimsby Institute and
was thrilled to find she had been nominated
“Apprentice of the Year”. Her prize was a day at
Cadwell Park Circuit on Sunday 16th
December with BTCC #15 Martyn Bell Racing Team.
The day included laps
around Cadwell Park with Martyn in a Vauxhall VX220
Turbo, Christmas lunch with the team as part of
the circuit “Christmas Cracker” event as well as a
special presentation of BTCC, Dunlop and Vauxhall VX
Racing souvenirs. Still to come is a trip to a BTCC
race meeting in 2008 as a VIP guest.
Here’s the link to the
MartynBellRacing website where there’s coverage of
Alinka’s day out on the homepage and a gallery page.

these will be random and not just on big race
meetings, or top finishers as expected.
-
From
the start of the 2008 season. When a 2/3rds format
meeting is required, drivers will be allocated their
heats and will not be allowed to change.
-
Car
bodies should not be welded on just bolted. Body
bolts should be 8mm x 25mm long with a 13mm head to
hold body on one in each corner to aid rescue of
injured driver.
-
Novice
drivers must have a large plate attached across the
back bars/bumper with 70mm wide black and white
stripes, and also black crosses across the back of
the roof, in tape only.
-
Brakes
MUST work at the beginning of every meeting, they
must be able to slow the car down when jacked up, the Scrutineer
must be able to put a pedal to slow the wheels by
hand. No
brakes are to be blanked off.
Driver
Conduct.
-
We are
trying to keep all drivers racing, BUT for a first
offence, a driver start the next race a lap down. Deliberate fencing (a car which is fired into
the fence) a two meeting ban. Follow in (when a car
is followed into the fence) a four meeting ban.
Please drive sensibly you are being watched.
-
With
the above if DVD evidence is available it will be
used to discipline a driver, all drivers requiring
disciplining will need to have their licensed
representative with them.
-
Illegal engines all points from that meeting will be
disallowed including returning any trophy's won.
This carries a six meeting ban.
-
There
will be no appeals committee in 2008, all problems
will be dealt with by the committee!

Sorry for
the delay the 2007 Track Championships & points standings are now
on site, (my fault for the delay sorry!) |
 |
Most of
you keep up to date with progress of the Ex NMSC drivers
who are doing well in other Short Oval racing. I had an
email from The Hopkins Family ex #254 It's good to see
Joe doing the business, Joe mentions Jamie Greeen Ex
#445, he has just won the final 2 rounds of the 2007 DTM
series. |
Just to
keep you updated on Joe's progress.
Joe has
been competing in this years Junior Touring Car
Championship and will be racing at the final
round of the season at Brands Hatch this weekend. He
is currently in 2nd position in the points with the
son of MOMO (the Italian Motorsport products
importer) leading. William Buller who's dad owns
Rockingham Speedway is in 3rd place, 10 points
adrift of Joe. He has just signed with a top team to
run in next years CLIO CUP alongside the British
Touring Cars (BTCC) and all his races next season
will be shown on ITV1 on sunday nights as a replay
and live on Setanta Sports channel on Sunday
afternoons. He is following in the footsteps of
Jamie Green who started out in the National MiniStox
and now races with the likes of Mikka Hakkinen in
the German DTM series.
All
along the way in our new world of circuit racing
people have been commenting on the driving style he
has when it comes to going for gaps during
overtaking that aren't there and that it has come
from his time with the short oval racing. Most
people come through the ranks of karting and money.
We have proved that oval racers are just as good as
anyone on the circuits and starting in close contact
racing has advantages of money and money.
(Brands Hatch Podium photo shows Joe in 3rd place.

racer Jonathon Palmer in 1st)

Will all
drivers please be vigilant as to where you are lining up
for the final of any meeting, you all know if you
haven't qualified (scored points in the heats) you are
in a full grid at the rear of the Qualifiers, there have
been several instances recently where our more
experienced drivers seem to have forgotten this rule. |
 |
Can all
drivers please remember that all complaints should be
channelled through the committee, there have been a few
incidents lately where driver representatives have been
going to the stewards box to complain. This must stop
and the correct procedure be followed. |
 |
Dave
Sharpe of ex team #220 has started a new business making
racing related jigsaws, he is attempting to supply all
current NMSC drivers with an A5 jigsaw of their own car.
please take a look at their
website. |
 |
lease
remember that the weight limit for NMSC cars has been
increased to 650kg the club will be carrying out random
weight checks at Skegness on Sunday. |

Please
note that there is a change to the booking in times
please check out the Bookings page. |
 |
It has
come to our attention that some drivers may be being
supplied with the wrong sized inlet & exhaust valves for
the cylinder head. Only the imperial sized valves
(Valve sizes are to be 1" exhaust
and 1 & 3/32" inlet) if your supplier gives you
the metric equivalent these will need turning down to
the correct size to conform with our rules. |

As the 2005 season has now
closed, Graham Campling has let me have the track

This is what
MiniStox look like in New Zealand, these are raced by adults
although there are some formula's for kids, Check out the
website that the picture
came from it has some really good shots
|

 |
It
might be a good idea if all drivers who are able to so, can
sign up for the website updates service, just fill in the
box on the front page and you will automatically be informed
of updates to the site. It doesn't cost any thing and your
details will not be passed on to anyone else.

There

Please
be aware that engines may be sealed and stripped on a
regular basis this season, and without prior warning.

 |
At a
recent committee meeting it was agreed that drinking of
alcohol by drivers is becoming an all too often occurrence,
Therefore the drinking of alcohol of any type will not be
allowed until after the very last race of any formula at any
meeting, Please also bear in mind that even after a meeting
has finished you could still be found to have brought the
Club into disrepute, and face the normal disciplinary
channels. At a Speed Weekend if any driver has been
drinking excessively they will not be allowed to race the
following day. |
 |
All
parents and mechanics are reminded that they must wear clean
overalls when on track. |

If You
have any items of news please contact me so I can publish
them. |
 |
Wanted.
As I am unable to
get to many race meetings I could do with someone to supply
photo's for the web site, all the pictures on the driver
profile pages need updating. I could also do with a few
decent action photo's. If you have a digital camera and
would like to take some pictures and e mail them to me I
would appreciate it, alternatively give me a ring and we can
have a talk about it. |
