[68] Notes: Lillian has now passed on, but a few years back (c.1994) I had a long phone conversation with her, and she told me about herself and her family. Her father George was a butcher, in Canning Town and Leytonstone. Although she lived with her parents, she spent a lot of time at Therfield with her grandparents, Alfred and Eliza Hagger. She spent so much time at Therfield that the local school board forced her to go to school there. She recalled that her grandfather was known in the village as 'civil' Alf because he was such a nice man.
