The Lib Dems on Oldham Council are stepping up their efforts to improve the Borough's atrocious recycling record by enlisting the help of local schoolchildren. It is proposed that £6,000 of Greening Greater Manchester landfill tax funding be used to buy and install recycling skipsw in local schools. If additional funding can be secured in the next round of bidding, the scheme will be expanded to meet the expected demand from other local schools. Improving recycling was a key manifesto promise when the Lib Dems took control last May. "Since the Council's kerbside nespaper and magazine collection was extended acrosss the Borough there have been encouraging levels of support" says Howard Sykes. "We are hopeful however that by involving schools in our recycling endeavours we will increase the amount of paper recycled". "We all know that children are very good at persuading adults of the importance of recycling and see this as an excellent opportunity for them to play thier part and become involved."
