Here are some general CS hints and tips for newer
members of the clan or anyone else who can be bothered reading:
- CROUCH JUMPING - If you have
never played the single player version of Half-Life (you should), then you
may be unaware of crouch jumping. A standing jump will only allow you to
jump so high. If you crouch first and then jump (kind of like a frog leap)
you get an extra bit of height which enables you to get onto some of the
taller boxes.
- BOOSTING - Have you ever
been shot by someone on a tall box that you never seem to be able jump onto.
Chances are they have been boosted up there by a team mate. The first player
crouches whilst the second player jumps on his head and then onto a usually
inaccessible box. For extra height the second player can jump allowing the
first player to stand up giving him an even higher boost. Combine this with
crouch jumping and you'll be amazed how high you can get.
- RUNNING WITH THE KNIFE -
Forget what your mother told you about running with knives and scissors.
In CS the bigger the weapon you are currently holding then the slower you
will run. Most rounds in CS start with a rush, especially demolition maps.
In order to gain that extra bit of speed, run with knife selected for maximum
speed. Of course you will have to change to a better weapon just before
you make contact with the enemy but you will quickly learn where the initial
contact points in each map are.
- SHOOTING THROUGH WALLS -
Most weapons in CS will shoot through walls. The higher the power of the
weapon (eg AWP) and the thinner the wall then the more damage you can do.
Just because someone hides behind a box, runs back through a door or behind
a wall, does not mean you should stop firing. Those air ducts on the roof
of the building in cs_assault are paper thin. If you know someone is in
there then blast away. Some of the best kills come when you cannot ever
see the enemy you are hitting.
- Ts ON DEMOLITION MAPS -
Most demolition maps have some boxes or crates around the bomb points. Before
planting the bomb see if a team mate can boost you up onto one of the usually
inaccessible boxes and then plant the bomb on top. This can lead to hilarious
consequences as either the opposition fail to find the bomb or are insufficently
organised to climb up and defuse it ... Ka-boom!
- MORE Ts ON DEMOLITION MAPS
- Ts may get more money from winning a round by detonating a bomb than by
killing all the CTs. Remember as well that once a bomb has been planted,
killing all the Ts is not enough to win the round for the CTs. They must
defuse the bomb to win.
- PROTECT THE BOMB - If your
playing as a CT on a demolition map and you manage to shoot the bomb carrier
then tell your team mates where the bomb is. A well defended bomb makes
it more difficult for the Ts to win. They have to come looking for the bomb
and hopefully into your CT ambush.
- USE THE SHADOWS - No not
Hank Marvin, use the shadows created by boxes, creates, rocks etc. The best
guide is to look a the brightness of the weapon you are currently holding.
The darker the detail then the more in shadow you are. Trying crouching
and moving slowly to get in the darkest possible spot where your weapon
is completely black.
Here are some map specific hints and tips:
CS_ASSAULT - Did you know that
both teams have cameras in this level. The Ts are located just outside the
room with the hostages in. The CTs are located in the back of the van near
their spawn point. But the Ts can disable the CTs cameras by shooting the
satelite dish on top of the van. It takes a fair few shots but it will eventually
explode, taking out the CT cameras in all future rounds.
CS_ITALY - Tired of that operatic
music coming from the Ts house. Look in your \cstrike\sound\ambience directory
to find a file called opera.wav. Sound familar ? It should, as this is the
sound file played. Change that file for another wav file of your choice but
make sure it is still called opera.wav. Goodbye Domingo, Hello a nice bit
of Bud Flanagan ! If you want to be really sad, right click here
and Save Target As.
CS_MILITIA - There is a light switch at the CT end of the sewers.
Turning out the lights makes both teams equally blind down there but it does
stop the Ts from picking you up on their sewer cameras quite so easily.
CS_OFFICE - Theres a ferret,
or something like one, behind one of the walls. I could tell you where but
that would spoil the fun!
DE_AZTEC - This is one of the
few demolition maps where the bomb points are not marked A or B. We therefore
came up with our own naming convention. The one in the large open area above
the water is bomb site A. The other one that is accessed by running over the
rope bridge is bomb site B. Just remember B for bridge and you cannot go wrong.
DE_SURVIVOR - There's only
one crate in this map. Can you find it ?
