Nelson
Mandela issued a rallying cry to over 22,000 people in “Like
slavery and apartheid, poverty is not natural. It is man-made and it can be
overcome and eradicated by the actions of human beings." "Overcoming poverty is not a gesture of
charity. It is an act of justice. It is the protection of a fundamental human
right, the right to dignity and a decent life. While poverty persists, there
is no true freedom." "Sometimes it falls upon a generation to be
great. You can be that great generation. Let your greatness blossom. Of
course the task will not be easy. But not to do this would be a crime against
humanity, against which I ask all humanity now to rise up."

The Knighton Justice Group was formed in 2002 as the Knighton
Trade Justice Group. We initially followed the aims of the Trade Justice Movement,
campaigning for fundamental changes in the rules that govern international
trade. Howver since then we have widened our remit to include other campaigns
that work towards reducing injustice and world poverty. We are a supporting and campaigning forum for local groups and
individuals associated with the area of Knighton in Being part of the Knighton Trade Justice Group allows for
greater co-ordination of action and campaigning than would be possible by
individuals alone. In 2005 we were very involved with the MAKE POVERTY HISTORY Campaign and since then we have
continued to support various charities and campaigns all aimed at fighting
injustice and reducing poverty. |
