Worcs

Wolverley Wythall

Chapel Lane,
Wythall,
Worcs.

We travelled over for the motor show in October - Tuesday before the meeting in Bo-Peep. I decided to travel down the A5. The logic was that the shortest distance that my 2 litre Sierra had to travel to get to Birmingham with my Compass 520 twin behind it the better. Also the fact that there should be wind protection from the ditches to aid towing against pulling on a motorway. Anyway I forgot to take into account the A5 roadwork's as well as the lovely mountains of Wales. As darkness fell, so did the rain. We reached the caravan park (after a few u-turns) at approx 8pm. (5 hours approx. for 150 miles). We had booked in advance and without any problems paid our money for 2 nights, (£20 odd for 1 Adult and 2 15 year olds + electricity - would have got £4 a night off if a member of the Caravan Club) got a site map and gate pass card. It's a nice flat site and considering it's proximity to Birmingham, it's rural. Respectable gap between hard standings. The only problem I could find with it was that there was no water available beside the standings. Only looked the first night in the pouring rain. Toilets and showers were spotless (Hot showers included in the price). Quite a few occupied vans for the time of year. Also they seem to have a storage facility available. All in all I would have no problem recommending the above site, and when in Birmingham again I will use same. We travelled back the A41 to Chester and then the A55. Have to admit I should have gone this way as well. The only problem with the A55 was when I got a bit of speed up the buffeting from Artics and Coaches was some what unnerving. To find Chapel Lane take the A435 (I think Junction 3 off the M42) towards Birmingham. At the first roundabout (restaurant just before it) left and within 100 yards left again. Its about half a mile down this road - beside a transport museum.

This is a members and guests only campsite.

Site facilities are good, with provision made for disabled visitors, there being a disabled toilet + shower which will accept wheelchairs (ramp). This toilet is also used by all other campers whilst the main ladies and gents facilities are being cleaned.

Showers are free, included in site fees, with no restrictions on useage apart from when being cleaned ( around midday ). A washing/drying room is also provided, as are sinks for washing up after meals.

Storage of caravans out of season also seems to be provided.

Apart from a reception area/small general shop there is also a games room for children to use if the weather is unsuitable for them to use the small playpark near reception ( slide + swings ).

We found the site easily, as it is signposted off the main road with the usual brown sign showing a caravan and tent. It is about a mile from the main Kidderminster – Wolverhampton Road (A449).

The camp caters mainly for caravans and motor homes, plenty of power hookups are on site, and these also act as nightlights on site.

We were given pitches near the ‘back gate’ which leads onto a lane which is used by a fair amount of traffic – it also leads to the local pub. As a result, it got a bit noisy later at night when we were trying to get youngsters off to sleep – traffic noise from the main road ( about 80 yards away ) didn’t help either.

Apart from our usual question as to why tents are almost always put the furthest away from toilet blocks, and near noisy roads, we will probably use this site again when visiting relations in the area.
