Blue Anchor BayThis site is the best one we have stayed on this year and probably the best since stating camping. Situated in Blue Anchor bay near Minehead this is a top quality peaceful site. There are 103 pitches on one big level field, about 50 of these were occupied when we were here, with plenty of water points and bins.

The showers are wonderful, there warm and you have plenty of space to move about. Plenty of sinks to wash and shave are provided and the whole block is kept clean. There are four sinks to wash pots in so they can be a bit crowded some times but its not hard to just leave the washing till later !!!

Blue Anchor BayThere is a good pool on site for children but it's not deep enough for adults to have a serious swim. The adventure playground is quite good set in amongst some trees with a fence round it to stop the really young ones escaping.

Blue Anchor BayThe only noise we had apart from the usual was the sound of steam trains that run down the back of the site, which far from being annoying made it more relaxing somehow. There is no club or pub on the site but you can walk to the nearest one in about 5 to 10 mins.

You will need a car to go shopping the nearest ones being in Minehead or watchet. To get to the supermarket, summerfields, follow the A39 to Minehead then the signs for Summer West world (butlins) and its on your left.

Blue Anchor BayThe first morning we were here I got up early about 8am, well its early for me, to wash the pots and had the company of Two robins sitting at my feet eating any stray crumbs. Then walking up to the shop to get a paper I could see squirrels running from tree to tree!

We will use this site again !!!!!

Exe Valley Caravan Site
Bridgetown
Exmoor

Site on A396 approx 13miles from Minehead, all units accepted. Probably the most helpful and relaxed site owners we have met. Young children discouraged [no playground] . Level secluded site bordered on both sides by streams, Water-Mill on site , very picturesque and peaceful.

Electric Hook-ups, TV reception poor-ariel useless,hook-ups available, cable £1-00 pn, Pitches very spacious, Toilets and showers adequate, rubbish cleared twice daily. Small shop/info at site entrance, always seemed to be open. On arrival we were told to pitch first and pay later [even on departure].

Good dog walk off site . Nearest pub 75m from site entrance. Meals lunchtime and evenings ,takeaway meals , big portions fair prices. Dogs welcome inside the pub [pheasant shooting area] .
Site situation best for touring Exmoor villages and walking . A396 very twisty , not suitable for touring North Somerset Coast

Bowdens Crest Caravan & Camping Park,
Bowdens,
Langport,
Somerset.
TA10 0DD.

I have just arrived home from a three-day camping trip with my girlfriend at Bowdens Crest Caravan and Camping Park in Langport, Somerset. It was intended as a quiet relaxing break with lots of long scenic dog walks in a beautiful part of the country but unfortunately I chose the wrong campsite. It looked great on the internet so I booked over the phone but on arrival I was treated like a down an out and was made to feel very unwelcome from the start.

On booking in, the old woman (owner) was condescending, sarcastic and cold to say the least but I smiled throughout thinking they would warm to me which the bitter and twisted old woman seemed to after a while but she had this Hitler type quality about her when I noticed her with a red face just about to burst with hatred shouting at a poor innocent little boy that was happily and running doing no harm to anyone “ Stop running round the caravans!!!!”. He wasn’t even making any noise. I’d have been very scared indeed at that age. The campsite was well organised with all the mod cons and new toilet block but it was to the extent that makes you feel uncomfortable with “do” and “don’t” signs everywhere. They wouldn’t even let my girlfriend bring her car to the tent and charged her three pounds per day to leave it in the car park.

Lest be honest, on arrival at a campsite after a four hour drive the last thing you want to do is read a whole load of paperwork on campsite rules. Usually I’m told if the gate will be locked at a certain time at night to stop cars entering and what time during the day to pack-up and leave by but they said nothing useful at all, she just handed me a pile of paper and groaned something grumpy at me. Anyway, we arrived back from the pub just after 11pm on the last night and the gates were locked so rather than disturbing anyone I thought I’d leave the car in the car park and walk to the tent but before I had the chance to reverse the car I was greeted by a aggressive and snotty Ken (who looked like one of the owners. He, also from the start was unfriendly). He acted like I’d just committed a crime. As well as all this, under two or three inches of grass is rock which we were not warned about so unless you buy there rock pegs on sale in the shop you will bend your pegs like I did.

I’m proud to say that we were quiet, friendly and polite and were very responsible with the dog at all times.
If you wish to camp on a well-equipped site with un-welcoming owners that are perminently bitter and twisted and may frighten the kids take them to Bowden’s in Langport.
