| I have a permanent darkroom that measures approximately 8 feet by five feet, located in my garage. It has hot and cold running water, which is a real boon. It's recently been upgraded (2006) to cater for 4"X 5" film. | |
| The dry area now contains a De Vere 504 enlarger with 250W dichroic head, courtesey of Ebay. The wall and ceiling around the enlarger have been painted matt black in order to reduce the effects of any light leakage from the enlarger affecting the print during exposure. The enlarging easel is a 16"x12" two-blade Photon-Beard.
The shelf to the right of the enlarger is used to store my enlarging lenses: a 50mm Schneider Componon S, an 80mm Nikkor and a 150mm Rodenstock Rodagon. |
| The Stopclock Pro pictured right, continues to be a real boon, as is its companion the zonemaster enlarger meter. The box under the stopclock is the stabilised power supply for the dichroic head on the enlarger. |

On the right-hand side of the enlarger I have a Nova RC paper dryer. I still use its high-tech predecessor,
an old hairdryer for drying off test strips and work prints!
|
| The wet area of my darkroom is dominated by the sink, which I obtained from Nova. It's a ready-made polythene unit. I'm certain that it cost me a lot less to buy this unit rather than build my own sink. All I had to do was build a wooden frame from 2" square timber and get someone in to do the plumbing. The unit on the wall is a Pro-co water panel. Designed for professional darkrooms, it allows water temperatures and flow rates to be controlled fairly precisely. It's probably overkill for my darkroom, but I love it! There's no way I could have afforded a new unit, but once again, Ebay came up trumps! I process both RC and FB paper in the Nova Trimate processor on the right of the picture. This unit is beginning to show its age. It was pretty old when I got it secondhand in 1999. Some day I'll replace it with a newer unit, possibly a Nova fibre based paper processor. There is a five slot archival washer situated immediately behind the Trimate processor. |

| Another extremely useful addition to my darkroom has been the Durst UT100 film dryer (yet another Ebay purchase!), pictured here with one of my first sets of 4"x5" negatives. | ![]() |

Finally, I have installed three print drying racks for drying fibre based paper. These are situated underneath the enlarger bench. There are three racks, each large enough to take up to two 16" x 12" prints. |
