Music has been important to Mark in his painting. Whilst at Art College in the South of England from 1969 to 1973, he became interested in rock music from Germany, with inspirational instrumental work and lyrics which were open to wide interpretation. A few years ago, as he began to experiment with his own painting, he rediscovered those same bands, some still working and others now gone but leaving an inspirational legacy. Most notable amongst these are Amon Duul ll, Can, Faust and Tangerine Dream . In the case of Amon Duul ll, it is without doubt the richness of the words which prompt him creatively whilst the instrumental exravagance of the others lead him further into his work.
