Wise Borris: Ancient God of the Fensfolk

Those that will speak of Wise Borris claim that he is old, first of the great gods, knowing everything there is to know. They say he existed long before the times of rage but that even such change was within his knowledge. He only gives clues as to the meanings of things for he believes things are best learnt for oneself. He most often speaks in riddles and his followers are want to talk in riddles as well. They say that Knux was visited many times during the dawn battle by Wise Borris with advice but they do not speculate on the form of that advice.

Descriptions of Wise Borris vary but throughout he is described as an old man with a long grey beard and long grey hair, the old bearded man of myth and legend, sage of sages and knowing the lore of all. It is said he wears a robe of leaves for he had much to do with the fertility of the land in ancient times. Now his daughter Issa the Green is better known for that but it was not always so. His cloak is of skins for the animals and some say he also wears an antler head dress on many occasions. Others say he has a torc with ravens heads for ends and that his plain stave has a ravens head either carved or placed upon its upper end.

Some claim Wise Borris can take the form of an owl by night and raven by day, others that those birds and others serve him. Others note his link to the creation of the land and suggest that he still learns all that has happened since as the land is still linked to him and tells him all that transpires. None doubt though that he has his ways to observe what passes.

Whatever the truth there is no doubting that he is wise beyond the ken of even the other great gods, young and old alike. He speaks in riddles for wisdom is the greatest virtue and in learning to understand his riddles you learn to understand more of the riddles around you. Knowledge alone is not enough for one must be wise enough to understand that knowledge and use it wisely.

Wise Borris is ancient, maybe the most ancient. He is just in his actions and his riddles are poetry. He spreads fertility through knowledge, how to live in harmony with the land and the seasons and walk the land as if you hand not passed by. He is there when he wants to be, and gone when it suits him, an enigma to all. In many ways he teaches you by intriguing you with snippets of knowledge wrapped up in riddles that need wisdom to comprehend. You learn just by trying to understand the first layer of what he is telling you let alone even a greater part of it..

Wise Borris may have existed before the times of rage but that does not mean he does not understand battle, he understands it only too well. Fight when you must, but only when you have to, and on ground of your choosing. Wise Borris will defeat you not by strength but by being fresh when you are tired, quiet when you trample and armed when you are not. Most of all though he knows, he knows your strengths and weaknesses, knows where to strike and when.

To seek Wise Borris’s wisdom you must make sacrifices, you must learn to think and seek, for knowledge is not gained for nothing. Learn of riddles you must if you are to understand the wisdom contained therein.
