Skrymir, follower of Kunx the KingmakerShaman SkrymirFollower of Kunx the Kingmaker Skrymir lived long ago. Many say he was the wisest of advisors but then many look back to the old times as better and that is not always so. Whatever the claims he was one of the wisest of the fensfolk, he could easily have been a scholar and follower of Wise Borris and renowned in his own name. Instead he chose to serve the great Jarl of his clan. The closest of the Jarl’s to being King of the fenslands in his generation and known for his wisdom. We Shaman know who his wise and trusted advisor and friend was and he acknowledged that though both played their roles as strong Jarl and trusted advisor well in public so the masses would follow strength and a sure and honest hand. It is Skrymir’s wisdom that negotiated many treaties of the age and resolved wars with a minimum of bloodshed. He is known to have said "Wisest are those who can reach settlement without violence even after blood has been shed. I will respect those who will honour holmgang, violent it may be, but when only blood will do it is the way. We are a people made strong by our warrior ways and must save our strength for war with our enemies not ourselves. Those who practice open war between our peoples though must learn another way. We are set upon from all sides, strong is our way and our people but only together can we stand when our enemies visit. Listen to wisdom, yes even the wise do well to practice for war but a last resort it is." He is said to have dressed in long robes of green, trimmed with fur and stitched with gold and silver threads in intertwining pattern. Be this true or not a great Shaman Skrymir was. |
