Fenslands Dress Shaman Houses Skald Bibliography |
The SkaldsThe Skald's are travelling poets and bards. They entertain in the households of Jarl's, travelling from one to another and singing songs and telling tales on thier way to the ordinary people. Thier greatest art is the composition of epic renditions of a Jarl's greatest battles in the demanding form of Skaldic verse. Masters of this art can demand large sums for writing and telling thier masterpieces for they greatly enhance a Jarl's reputation. Day to day the Skalds travel the Fenslands telling the epic tales of the people. They spread the news and tales of events and tales of warning least the people ever forget the threat all face from the great evil in the east. The Skalds are maybe the freest of the Fensfolks, welcome from the most impoverished village to the greatest Jarl's hall for they bring news, wisdom and entertainment to all. Woe betide he who harms a Skald. Their fellows will denounce the offender from one end of the Fenslands to the other. The worst fate you can face is to be the target of Skaldic satire and ire for then all know of your failings. It has also been said that he who offends a Shaman may earn Skaldic ire and he who harms a Skald will ever be lacking the shamans favour. Both the paths of Skald and Shaman demand much of their followers, and both can be lonely in their own way. The Skalds therefore may be the closest to the Shaman but that is not that close. However the greatest of the Skalds are barring a few Jarls maybe the most renowned people in the Fenslands. Tales From The Skalds
