This is a simple app for Symbian (Nokia S60 5th edition phones) to calculate the sunrise and sunset times of the current day based on your current location (as determined by GPS).
Download free from the app store!(Screenshot.)
This should work on any device running Symbian S60 5th edition or better, with GPS.
Just start the application, and wait. It may take a while to get a GPS location. When the location is obtained, the sunrise and sunset times will be displayed in your local timezone (the timezone will be noted in brackets).
The calculations come from here and here. I've checked these against various online sunrise/sunset calculators, and the algorithm seems reasonably accurate (at least, to within a minute or two).
Version 1.2 (2012/04/02) INFO Version 1.2 has a new "UID" value, which means if upgrading from earlier versions, the old version will not be uninstalled - please uninstall the old version manually. This is due to a fault by Nokia Store, and not me! This version is only to fix this issue, and features no other changes. Version 1.1 (2011/12/21) FIXED Now using properly allocated UIDs on Symbian, not development ones. FIXED Font spacings not quite right on some devices. ADDED Online help option, to open this webpage. Version 1.0 (2010/08/05) First release.
Contacting me (bugs etc)
Please contact me at mark dot harman at ntlworld dot com . Please let me know if you are interested in the source code, as I'm happy to release it if anyone wants it. Also let me know if you're interested in a port for Maemo (for Nokia N900) or Meego (for Nokia N9), as I can compile it for those platforms too, though I don't have one of those smartphones to test it on.
