2nd Bulford

On 26th Jan 2006 members of 2nd Bulford, 1st Shrewton and 1st Tidworth Scouts, all based in the Salisbury Plain District, got together recently to cook their way into the County Cooking competition. The three teams were set the task of planning, buying and cooking a meal for four people, with a budget of £15.00 and a theme based on a charity of their choice.

Two of the teams started the meal with soup as a starter, with one team offering a smoked salmon salad. Main courses included chicken, 1st Tidworth serving it with pasta twists and 2nd Bulford going for a bed of rice with stirfry vegetables. 1st Shrewton choose a main course of Tuna steak. At the end of the day nine points (out of a possible 200) separated the three teams, with 1st Tidworth the eventual winners.

John Sparrow, Group Scout Leader said, 'The young chefs thoroughly enjoyed themselves, with no accidents with the sharp knives or gas cookers!'

1st Tidworth could not make the County Competition and asked us to step in on their behalf, it was a last minute thing to quickly phone around the young chefs to find out if they were available.  We managed to get three of the original team together and a stand in.  So it was off to Potterne on a windy Sunday morning 5 Mar 2006 for the next heat in the culinary arts.  We came an eager 3rd which was not an easy feat as there was only a few points between the top five teams.  As this is 2nd Bulfords first time in this competition we have not done too bad and I think that it is a great achievement for the Scouts that are taking part.

The next step is for us to go to the Regional Finals in Chelmsford on the 2nd of Apr 2006.
