If you receive a HOAX by email then just delete it - don't forward it. If you receive a virus warning by email then assume it is a hoax until you prove otherwise.
If you think you have a real virus DO NOT connect to the internet until you have fully disinfected your machine. This will prevent spreading the virus to others.
Put these two together an you realise you should never send virus warnings by email. Even more important, don't send them to a mailing list or a newsgroup.
