This site used to host the official site for the Marshall Peterborough & District Football League. However following the introduction of the new site at www.pdfl.org this site for the time being acts as the history site. It contains information of the league dating back to season 1999-2000. It is the league's intention to add further previous historical details during the future.

Saturday 30th July 2005

The long awaited release of the opening day fixtures has finally arrived and there are some apertising matches to herald the start of the new format of the league. Probably the most striking of fixtures sees two Premier Division heavyweights clash on Saturday 20th August. One of the pre season title favourites Perkins Sports have been handed a home clash with another much fancied team, Moulton Harrox, runners up last season who will be defending a record of 15 straight league victories stretching back to the end of January. Infact Perkins Sports were the last side to defeat the Lincolnshire outfit on league duty when goals from Luke Elsom (2) and Michael Dudley gave the city works side a 3-0 success in last season corresponding fixture.

Newly promoted Crowland Town will have an early test of their top flight credentials. The side managed by Dave Willis will host PFA Senior Cup holders and much fancied Ortonians side at St Cuthberts School. Champions, Whittlesey United begin the new season with a reverse fixture to the one that saw them clinch their first ever Premier Division title back in May when they travel to Stamford Belvedere. Meanwhile Hotpoint will be hoping to return once again with three points from a tricky looking trip to Uppingham Town. Elsewhere Alconbury welcome Leverington Sports to The Recreation field, whilst Oundle Town entertain Parson Drove at Station Road. Finally in the top flight with Ryhall United now a Division One. outfit the two lowest finishing sides from last term Long Sutton Athletic and Pinchbeck United clash at Sutton's London Road ground.

Talking of Ryhall United and they have been handed a tough season opener as they seek an early return to the top flight. They will atleast be happy with a home game as they entertain a useful Rutland Rangers side in the only first day Division One game. There is a full programme in Division Two. League new boys Warboys Town host recent season strugglers Peterborough Rovers at Forge Way. Both sides have had a poor ran during the past couple of seasons. Warboys have dropped from the dizzy heights of the Eastern Counties League, whilst Rovers have only won six of their last fifty league starts. Both will be keen to get off to the best possible start on the first day of the campaign. Elsewhere in the third tier of the league there is entertaining looking clash as Coates Athletic visit Guyhirn. Meanwhile Chatteris Fen Tigers entertain much fancied Stilton United at their Fairway ground. Others ties see Griffin Park travel to Manea United, March St Marys host Thorney, Eye Sports & Social welcome Farcet United to Lindesfarne Road and Emneth Seniors host Doddington United.

Due to lack of availability of Council pitches the newly formed Combination League does not get into full swing until the beginning of September. There are only six matches planned for August 20th.Hotpoint Reserves and Werrington Town Reserves will entertain Oundle Town Reserves and Whittlesey United Reserves respectively in Combination League Division One. In the only Division Two game Crowland Town Reserves will play Leverington Sports 'A'. Finally there are three matches in the Third Division as Coates Athletic Reserves welcome Doddington United Reserves, Pinchbeck United Reserves travel to Ramsey Town 'A' with Silver Jubilee Reserves making a trip to Rutland Rangers Reserves.

Once again this season there are midweek fixtures in The Premier Division and these will be available to view in the competition section of the site from August 1st. All clubs are reminded that all fixtures published on this site are subject to change at short notice. All clubs are therefore urged to refer to the league Fixture Secretary Lawrence Derrante throughout the season.

Following the new League Structure due to commence in August The League have also invested in a new computer system that will allow clubs to log onto the net and updates details for their clubs etc. In turn this will also provide information for the running of a website. As a result the Peterborough League section on peterboroughfootball.co.uk will be moving to a new web address in due course. This will be found at www.pdfl.org and is due to launched following the league's agm which took place on Tuesday 21st June. Although not very well explained to those present at the AGM the site will still be edited by myself, Mark Chambers with the help of Gareth Exton, who has been responsible with writing the software. My personal thanks go to Gareth. The remaining items held on peterboroughfootball.co.uk such as the PFA section will still continue and will also include archived information from previous seasons. As the results, league tables and other information will be much more easily captured this will allow me to visit clubs during the forthcoming season and update the site with information etc. Any club interested in receiving a visit should send an e-mail to me groundvisit@ntlworld.com.

Whittlesey United FC crowned champions

There was last day delight for Whittlesey United, whilst there was last day despair for Moulton Harrox as the Fenlanders clinched their first ever Premier Division title at the Manor Leisure Centre. On a day which began with both sides needed to win their last game to have any chance of taking the title ended with both gaining the victories they required. However Moulton Harrox's fine 6-3 home success over Hotpoint proved fruitless as Whittlesey United convincingly saw off Stamford Belvedere 5-1 in front of a healthy crowd. The newly crowned champions had all but wrapped up the championship inside the first eleven minutes as top scorer George Goodayle helped himself to a brace. The first of which arrived on three minutes when the club’s top scorer was quickest to react to a superb low cross from the busy Wayne Morris. Goodayle doubled the advantage eight minutes later when a deep free kick from Dean Shepperson saw the striker head home past a bewildered Mark Knighton in the Stamford goal.

The game was all but over on 21 minutes when an excellent Ricky Speechley corner was forced home by a towering header from defender Scott Lazenby. Speechley then saw his 45 yard free kick beat the back peddling Knighton to put his side four before the break.

The second half was played out in typical end of season mode, although Bels did reduce the arrears through Chris Gordon five minutes after the restart before Ricky Speechley converted a late penalty in empathic style after Wayne Morris had been upended to start the party.

Meanwhile in Lincolnshire, Moulton Harrox earned themselves the victory which was to be in vein. However they too look an early lead as they went ahead within the first minute of their clash with Hotpoint. Joe Townsend was the scorer. Stuart Eason quickly equalised for the visitors only for Patterson and Sinfield to soon restore and increased the home side's lead with further second half strikes from Patterson (2) and Gauntlett ensuring that strikes from Sanderson and Morris were to be mere consolations for Hotpoint.

Saturday 7th May 2005

Whittlesey United are just 90 minutes away from winning their first ever Peugeot Premier Division League title, following their 3-1 win against Parson Drove. Their hopes looked to be in doubt at the break as United were held to a goal less first half against ten man Drove. However their nerves were settled when Jay Klimczuk took advantage of Drove's goalkeepers James Jordan's mistake to force home the opener. Klimczuk doubled his side's advantage with a fantastic strike before the impressive Ricky Speechley put the game out of Drove's reach when he added a third. Danny Ward reduced the arrears with a late consolation for Drove late on. United may not have to wait until Saturday to secure the championship. They will be crowned champions if Moulton Harrox fail to win their midweek game at Wimblington Old Boys. Harrox did atleast keep alive their own hopes of a last day championship win, although they did struggle to see off bottom side Ryhall United. Moulton, like Whittlesey were held to a goal less first period before sealing a predictable victory with second half strikes from Bob Patterson, Tommy Treacher and Jon Ball.

Reigning champions, Ortonians finally gave up their title after a brave effort that left them three points short of last season's winning title. They did however retain The PFA Senior Cup and their likely top three finish will still please manager Stephen Cooper He said after his side had won their final game at Long Sutton Athletic 5-0 "We played really well, and I'm proud of the players for the way they've played this season. Unfortunately we just didn't manage to do enough to win back-to-back titles. "But well done to Whittlesey and Moulton." Lee Ayres scored two goals and should've had a hat-trick, but the referee failed to spot his shot came back out off the stanchion. Glen Bolden was on hand though to score from the rebound. Seth Twigden and Sammy Balti chipped in with the other goals. Finally Stamford Belvedere beat Wimblington by just a single goal. The only goal The only goal of the game arrive 10 minutes before the break when Chris Gordon scored on his first team debut for the Bels. Moulton Harrox will be keeping their fingers crossed that Bels continue their winning ways when they go to Whittlesey United on Saturday, whilst Harrox themselves entertain Hotpoint in what promises to be an exciting last day.

Tuesday 3rd May 2005

Moulton Harrox will be hoping to take the Premier Division championship race to the last day. They still have a lot of work to do to achieve the May 14th showdown as they have to visit Ryhall United and Wimblington Old Boys on Saturday and Tuesday respectively before the last day. More importantly they will need to win both of these games to make their last day home game with Hotpoint mean anything. They did atleast give themselves a chance on tonight with a 4-0 home win over Parson Drove, a result which clinched a top three finish.

Saturday 30th April 2005

Whittlesey United kept their championship hopes very much on course after an empathic 10-0 victory over Ryhall United saw them return to the top of the table. Mario Palazzo led the way with four goals in the easy win over the hapless bottom side, who seem detined for relegation after Crowland Town clinched the First Division championship title. Jay Kimczuk and Wayne Morris each grabbed a brace with Mick Gale and George Goodayle completing the rout. This latest win means that the Fenlanders will win the title if they defeat Parson Drove next Saturday as well as Stamford Belvedere on May 14th. Champions, Ortonians were without a game and they now look likely to finish the campaign in third place. This follows yet another win for Moulton Harrox, their eleventh on the spin. They had to work hard for their latest success at Oundle Town. Steve Sinfield and Joe Townsend were on target for Harrox with Dan Kelly replying for Town. Moulton need to win their remaining four matches, whilst hoping Whittlesey United fail to win atleast one of their two games.

Hotpoint clinched a respectable fourth spot in manager Mark Speechley's first full season in charge. Not for the first time this season they had to come from behind to claim a 6-4 success at Stamford Belvedere. Michael Webb and Martin Knighten had given the home side a 2-0 half time lead before an own goal from David Norris reduced the arrears. Gareth Sanderson (2), Stuart Eason, Graham Morris, and Adam Bevilacqua were all on target to set up the win with Scott Beeney and Alex Brockbank replying for the home side.

Elsewhere there were two draws in the top flight. Long Sutton Athletic have had a steady end to the campaign. They have pieced together a three match unbeaten run with one to play. Having defeated Ryhall United at home last midweek, they have gained a further two useful draws since. They followed up their midweek 2-2 draw at Wimblington Old Boys with an excellent 1-1 draw at one time leaders Leverington Sports. Martin Ryan had given the home side the lead before Ian Spelman grabbed a point with a second half leveller. Finally Perkins Sports ended a steady season with a fifth place finish after they held Wimblington Old Boys to a 2-2 draw. Gary Walker put Sports in front twice before Ashley Spendlow and Ian Turvey cancelled each of these strikes out to earn a point for The Old Boys.

Saturday 23rd April 2005

Whittlesey United moved to within 270 minutes of clinching their first championship in their history following their latest victory. Mind you they did not have it all their own way before they finally saw off Hotpoint 4-2. United raced into a 3-0 lead inside the first 20 minutes with Ricky Speechley, Mick Gale and George Goodayle all on the mark. However Stuart Eason grabbed a lifeline for Hotpoint just before the break. This unsettled the champions-elect and when Graham Morris reduced the arrears further in the second half the home sides nerves began to show. Defender Mick Gale popped up with his 18th goal of the campaign to settle these nerves and set up a vital victory which leaves his side needing to win their last three games against Stamford Belvedere, Parson Drove and Ryhall United to win the title.

Champions, Ortonians continued to apply pressure should Whittlesey slip up as they followed up their late late PFA Senior Cup Final victory over Moulton Harrox in midweek as they defeated Peterborough Sports 2-0. Lee Ayres and Glen Bolden were on target. Moulton Harrox recovered from that single goal cup defeat with a similar 1-0 home success over Perkins Sports to leapfrog their visitors into third spot. Tommy Treacher grabbed the winner with a stunning strike.Elsewhere in the Premier Division Danny Ward was on the mark twice as Parson Drove narrowly defeated Oundle Town 2-1 at home. Ward scored for the hosts either side of a Danny Kelly equaliser for the visitors. Leverington Sports made heavy work of beating bottom side Ryhall United, who continued their dismal campaign that seems doomed to end in relegation. Sports goals were scored by James Muffett and Colin Parvini with Collier replying too late for United. Finally Wimblington Old Boys have hit some end of season form, which continued with a 5-2 victory over fading Alconbury who ended their campaign with a fourth straight defeat. The burys did however lead twice through Wayne Wright and Gareth Jones. Both Stuart Goddard and Mark Southwell restored parity before Grant Haley struck twice to set up the win which was completed in the final minute by Marcus Panks. Meanwhile in Division One Crowland Town need just a single point to clinch championship. They have three games in which to find this point to overtake Deeping Rangers 'A'.This follows Town's 3-0 home victory over PFA Challenge Cup Finalists Hotpoint Reserves.

Saturday 16th April 2005

Moulton Harrox were the main benefactors as the top two in The Premier Division, Ortonians and Whittlesey United cancelled each other out in the top of the table clash at the Manor. The result will probably suit United as they still only trail the champions by a point with two games in hand. Games are running out for Ortonians and it looked as if their challenge was about to be ended as they went behind to a Mick Gale's 35th minute header, his 16th goal of the season. Not bad for a centre half. Nevertheless Ortonians never say die attitude again came to the fore and they ricely deserved a share of the spoils and when Tim Hudson in the Whittlesey goal made an error Lee Ayres was on hand to force home an equaliser against his former club with seconds remaining.

Meanwhile Moulton Harrox have moved almost unnoticed into a real challenging position following their ninth straight victory. They followed up their 4-0 midweek success at Parson Drove with another away win, this time at Uppingham Town. Harrox went in front with an Andy Williams 20th minute strike. However they had to wait until a second half goal from Joe Townsend before they could relax in the knowledge that the three points were theirs. Despite this double victory. Manager Paul Kent still feels that his side have too much to do to take the title. Not only do his chargers have six league games left. They also have the small matter of two major cup finals to play in the shape of appearances in both the Peterborough Football Association and Lincolnshire FA Senior cups in the next fortnight.

Elsewhere, Hotpoint returned to winning ways in empathic style as they thumped Long Sutton Athletic 9-0. Adam Bevilacqua led the way with a hat-trick with Stuart Eason and Chris Crotwell each weighing with a brace apiece. Chris Pippard and Gareth Sanderson scored the others. There was dream debut for 18 year old Yanek Lodiak as he was on the mark as his new side Wimblington Old Boys cruised to a 4-0 success at home to bottom side Ryhall United. Ian Turvey, Grant Haley and a Stuart Goddard spot kick completed the victory. Oundle Town had to recover from conceding a second minute penalty at home to Alconbury. Wayne Wright converted for the visitors, who then allowed the home side to quickly draw level on seven minutes through Dan Kelly. John Rhodes then put Town ahead against the run of play before Dan Kelly settled the issue with his second. Finally Stamford Belvedere continued to enjoy the second half of the season as they moved into a top seven position with 2-1 home success over long time title challengers. Leverington Sports.Graeme Theodore gave Bels the lead before top scorer Malcolm Duff doubled the advantage. Despite a late rally from the Sports they only had a Neil Couzens consolation to show for their efforts.

Saturday 9th April 2005

Whittlesey United continued to be unable to shake off the resistance of champions Ortonians at the weekend as their hopes of lifting their first ever championship still hang in the balance. The Fenlanders face the champions at the Manor next Saturday it what could be the decider. Whittlesey warmed up for that encounter with a vital 3-1 victory at home to Pinchbeck United. For the second week running they failed to see off a side who have finished next to bottom without a struggle. Top scorer, George Goodayle gave them the lead only for Jack Chilvers to restore parity on the stroke of half time. After a half time dressing down the home side finally took control with two second half goals from Ricky Speechley and David Taylor much to the relief of their manager, Lee Minnett. Meanwhile Ortonians earned a 4-0 win at Wimblington Old Boys, although they too did not have it their own way. Despite falling behind to a first half own goal the home side remained this lone goal behind until 20 minutes from time. However Lee D'arcy then scored two quick fire goals to set up the win with Steve Paling finally completing it with a goal five minutes from time.

Moulton Harrox kept up their mathematical chance of a title success with a 2-0 success at Peterborough Sports, although with eight league games plus two cup finals still left the play, manager Paul Kent concedes that the championship is beyond his side. He will be pleased though following their lastest win, their seventh on the trot after Tommy Treacher and Nigel Steadman both scored. Realistically these three sides are the only sides left with a title winning chance. Hotpoint's hopes ended as they were thumped 6-0 at home to Perkins Sports. Ryan Francis continued to enhances his reputation with a hat-trick with further goals from Adam Dare, Lee Harbour and Ashley Favell completing the rout. Leverington Sports and one time leaders Uppingham Town fought out a 1-1 draw at Tod's Piece. Dan Jolly gave the home side the lead only for a Brendon Bird spot kick to earn Sports a share of the spoils. A debut hat-trick from Laurence Clark inspred Oundle Town to a 5-3 victory over Long Sutton Athletic. John Rhodes and Dan Kelly also scored with Matt Stancer, Matt Radeloff and James Laing replying for Sutton.

Elsewhere Stamford Belvedere won the Stamford derby with Ryhall United 6-0. Two goals from Graeme Theodore and Malcolm Duff together with further strikes from Dave Cramp and Jamie Chiverton completed the rout. Finally Parson Drove had goals from Wayne Morton, Ben Russell and Michael Couzens to thank in their 3-1 home success over Alconbury. Alec Dalton replied for the vistors.

Saturday 2nd April 2005

Ortonians can still win the Premier Division title, atleast that is the opinion of their manager Tommy Cooper. His beliefs follow his sides 4-1 home victory over Parson Drove which kept his title holders a point ahead of title favourites Whittlesey United. Cooper firmly believes that his side can win their remaining and retain their championship crown. Speaking after his side's latest win he said: "We've still got to play Whittlesey, and they still have to play Parson Drove, who are a decent side. Hopefully they will do us a favour." Mark Baines and Glen Bolden put Cooper's men 2-0 up, but the visitors pulled a goal back on the stroke of half-time through Lee Markillee, who played his first 90 minutes since returning from a broken leg. The second half proved to be an extremely tight affair, but Ortonians extended their lead through Steve Paling and the prolific Lee Ayres. Whittlesey United made hard work of seeing off lowly Pinchbeck 2-0 on Saturday as they recovered from losing to Perkins Sports last weekend United opened the scoring 10 minutes before half-time, when Mick Gale forced home a throw in with is back. Victory was ensured for Whittlesey in the second half through Dean Shepperson.

Meanwhile Perkins Sports failed to build on their win at Whittlesey as their hopes of finishing second were all but ended as they were held to a 1-1 by Oundle Town. Perkins keeper, Gary Hooke gave them the lead with his second penalty of the campaign. However Danny Thomas could do nothing as he squared the scores with a second half own goal as the game finshed level. Elsewhere Hotpoint manager Mark Speechely was furious with his side following their 2-1 home defeat to title chasing Moulton Harrox. He claimed they lacked passion in a poor showing that saw their eight match unbeaten run come to an end after Tommy Treacher fired home Moulton's winner. Earlier in the game Adam Bevilacqua had cancelled out Andy Williams early strike for the visitors. Alconbury beat Long Sutton Athletic 4-1 to remain in mid table following this away success. Wayne Wright (2), Luca Bohar and Andy Neal netted for Alconbury with Ian Spellman scoring a cracking consolation goal for Sutton. Teenage star Colin Parvini is becoming a major player for Leverington in the latter part of the season. He added to his creditials with a first half hat-trick in his side's 3-2 home win over Wimblington Old Boys.Marcus Panks and Mark Southwell scored for Wimblington. Finally Uppingham Town and Stamford Belvedere fought out a goalless affair at Tod's Piece with the home side playing out the last 20 minutes with 10 men following the dismissal of Neil Clarke for two bookable offences.

Saturday 26th March 2005

Perkins Sport ignited the Premier Division championship race with a thrilling 3-1 at champions elect Whittlesey United. Whilst the victory is not enough to earn Sports any real hopes of lifting the trophy (they only hove four games left) it could sow some seeds of doubt into the minds of the title favourites. The Fenlanders, who had Mick Gale to thank for their consolation saw their long unbeaten league run finally ended after 15 games when Dean Clarke helped himself to a hat-trick in the result of the day that throws the door open again for reigning champions Ortonians. The city side returned to the top of the tree after 6-2 win at Uppingham Town.Mind you they had to recover from going 2-1 down after Butler and Cliffe had cancelled out Lee Ayres's opener for Orton. However Uppingham dozed off in the second half as they allowed Ayres to complete a nap hand with Kevin Randle also on the mark. Whittlesey drop to third whilst fourth and fifth placed sides Hotpoint and Leverington Sports both won. Hotpoint won by the odd goal in five at Peterborough Sports with Rob Sullivan, Adam Bevilacgua and Danny Beeby on target in a ding dong affair which twice saw Sports tie the scores through Colin McInerney and Robbie Osker. Meanwhile Leverington had a 85th minute Colin Parvini strike to thank for their single goal home success over Alconbury.

Oundle Town saw off Wimblington Old Boys with Leishman, Thorpe and Saunders scoring. Szasz replied for the The Old Boys. Two Michael Duff goals helped Stamford Belvedere beat Pinchbeck United by the same scoreline. Graeme Theodore grabbed their other goal . Meanwhile Long Sutton Athletic home clash with managerless Ryhall United was postponed which prevented the home side from building on their midweek 2-0 success at home to Lincolnshire rivals, Pinchbeck United.

Saturday 19th March 2005

Whittlesey United returned to winning ways following last weeks draw as they won a difficult looking away tie at Alconbury. The title favourites run out 3-0 victors with two goals from George Goodayle and Rob Imlah sealing the victory that maintains their two point lead. Second placed Ortonians had a Kevin Randle goal to thank for their single goal win over much improved Stamford Belvedere, who slipped to their first defeat in five. Perkins Sports were another side who had to fight hard for all three points in their home clash with Parson Drove, which they won 3-2. Dean Clarke gave them an early lead before Rob Taylor headed home an equaliser for the visitors. The hosts regained the lead on the stroke of half time when Clarke grabbed his second. Ryan Francis then gave Perkins some daylight with his sides third. However James Patrick then reduced the arrears with 15 minutes remaining to set up an exciting finish. Perkins managed to weather the storm to remain level on points with Ortonians.

Hotpoint kept up their faint title hopes with a victory by the same score at Uppingham Town. However they had to recover from going two down. Dylan Oliver and Dan Jolly put the home side in control by half time. Only for two goals from Andrew Bradley, included a penalty two minutes from time and a rare Ian Rudd goal completing the comeback as Hotpoint were able to take the points back to Peterborough. Leverington Sports were held to a draw at home by Oundle Town. However they also produced an amazing comeback after being reduced to ten men as the two sides shared six goals at Church Road. Oundle were already two up through Dan Kelly and Matt Goodall before their chances of victory were enhanced following the dismissal of Brendon Bird. Louis Fitzgerald then put Town three up. However in a frantic last seven minutes goals from Martin Ryan, substitute Colin Parvini and Jamie Muffett earned Leverington an unlikely point.

Meanwhile there was no such close contest at Moulton Harrox as nine man Ryhall United were hammered 11-0 by a rampant home side. Paul Gauntlett and Nigel Steadman each grabbed a hat-trick with John Ball and Ian Locke scoring a brace a piece. Cup hero Tommy Treacher completed the rout. The remaining top flight game saw Long Sutton Athletic go down 1-0 at home to Peterborough Sports with Robbie Osker on target for the visitors.

Saturday 12th March 2005

The PFA Senior Cup took centre stage with Moulton Harrox having to come from behind before reaching their first PFA Senior Cup in nine years at Leverington this afternoon. Brendon Bird fired the home side in front 12 minutes from time after the in form Neil Cousins was flattened by Harrox keeper, James Dunham. Dunham was lucky to receive just a caution, but he was easily beaten by Bird spot kick. The lead did not last long though as the unmarked Tommy Treacher restored parity with seven minutes remaining on the watch after some excellent work by sub Paul Gauntlett. Just as it looked as if the tie was going to enter extra time Treacher outpaced two Leverington defenders before superbly fired past the onrushing keeper to send to set up a final tie with holders Ortonians. They also had to work very hard before finally shaking off the resistance of a resilent Wimblington Old Boys in their PFA Senior Cup Semi-Final. The underdogs deservedly forged ahead midway through the first half with a fantastic volley from Ashley Spendlow. However substitute Lee Ayres came off of the bench to tie the scores and send the game into extra-time.In the first period of extra time it was Ayres again who settled the tie with his second of the game.

Back in The Premier Division a Jon Harrison strike halted Whittlesey United winning run. However the Fenlanders held on for a point with a Mick Gale equaliser as they increased their lead at the top to two points. Two goals from Andrew Bradley and a Stuart Eason strike set up a 3-1 victory for Hotpoint as they kept alive their faint title hopes. However Uppingham Town 2-1 success at Perkins Sport may have ended the home sides hopes. Dylan Oliver saw his spot kick saved by Perkins keeper Gary Hooke only to be on hand to convert the rebound. Hooke, himself scored a penalty but not until an own goal had doubled Town's advantage.

Elsewhere in the Premier Division Pinchbeck United came back from two down to grab a point in 2-2 home draw with Oundle Town. Jack Chilvers and Dan Haw were United's scorers. Parson Drove ended a run of three straight defeats as they overcame Ryhall United by the odd goal in three. Joe Warner and James Patrick put Drove two up before Ben Hepworth narrowed the arrears. Finally Stamford Belvedere made it four wins on the spin as they moved up to ninth with a fine 2-1 success at another in form side Alconbury. Malcolm Duff put Bels in front, only for Carl Harper to cancel it out. however with time running out disaster struck for the home side as an own goal gift wrapped all three points for Stamford.

Saturday 5th March 2005

Whittlesey United became the first time other than Ortonians since September to top the Premier Division. This follows a 4-0 win at home to Oundle Town to take their unbeaten league run to 12. The last ten have all been victories with the latest finally seeing them head the table for the first time. They were given a help in hand this week when Ronnie Leishman put through his own net before a brace from Mario Palazzo and a goal from Dean Shepperson completed the win. The Fenlanders have managed to do the easy bit they now have to do the hard bit and eight wins from their remaining eleven will see them lift the championship for the first time in their history.

Former leaders Ortonians were not in league action. However they were left to console themselves after losing top spot by reaching the final of The Huntingdonshire FA Senior Cup with a 3-0 win at Brampton. They can make to a second Cup final next weekend when they entertain Wimblington Old Boys in the Peterborough FA Senior Cup. Wimblington warmed up for this important clash which could keep their seaon going with a first in eight as they saw of Pinchbeck United 5-1. Slovakian forward Szasz turned on the style with a hat-trick in the second half with Ashley Spendlow also on target. This was after John Thurston had cancelled out Gavin Posey first half opener for the visitors.

There were two other top flight encounters. Peterborough Sports made it four unbeaten games with 2-0 home victory over faded Uppingham Town. New signing Brett Bellamy and former Perkins Sports man, John Harrison scored the goals. Meanwhile Stamford Belvedere had to work hard to beat Parson Drove 3-1 at home. In a bruising affair which saw Drove manager, Alan Russell dismissed for entering the field of play without permission. Malcolm Duff (2), Andy Haig (Stamford) and Michael Moore (Drove) were the persons entitled to be on the field who scored for their sides respectively.

Saturday 26th February 2005

Whittlesey United continued their march towards the Premier Division title with a fine 2-1 home victory over a disappointing Leverington Sports, whose challenge was all but ended with another defeat on their travels. Last week they slipped up at leaders Ortonians and this weekend they had it all to do after Mick Gale and Wayne Morris had given United a two goal lead. Recent signing Martin Ryan did halve the deficit, but it flattered the visitors, whose only hope of silverware this term will appear to be in The PFA Senior Cup a competition in which they face Moulton Harrox next weekend.

Moulton themselves still harbour their own hopes of lifting the league crown, although second place looks more realistic. They did their chances of achieving this no harm with a controlled 2-0 win at home to Wimblington Old Boys. Ian Locke scored with a stunning effort before John Ball wrapped up the win with a second. Perkins Sports stay second after they saw off bottom side Ryhall United. Dean Clarke settled Perkins nerves with the opener. However they had to wait until the final 15 minutes to finally break Ryhall's brave resistance with Ryan Francis and James Martin both on target to complete a 3-0 success.

Elsewhere fast improving Alconbury made it three wins on the spin with 6-2 mauling of Long Sutton Athletic. Matt Radelof did give Sutton a good start with the games first goal. However the home side stormed back into the game with all of their six goals coming in the second half. Luca Boher (2), Matt Farrington, Alec Dalton, Seamus Doyle and Mark Downing completed the rout with Vince Mackie grabbing Sutton's second. Finally Uppingham Town ended a seven match run without a victory with an odd goal in three success at Parson Drove.

Saturday 19th February 2005

Leverington Sports missed a glorious opportunity to regain top spot in the Premier Division standing as they where beaten by the leaders, Ortonians in a late late show. Ortonians still smarting from last weeks home defeat to fellow title challengers Whittlesey United looked on course for another home reverse after James Neverson had given Sports the lead somewhat against the run of play. However with time running out Glen Bolden popped up to level the scores seven minutes from time. Then with the game entering the final minute the excellent Mark Baines fired home a close range overhead kick to settle the tie and restore the champions three point advantage. Leverington meanwhile know that defeat to Whittlesey next weekend could end their challenge.

With Whittlesey not in league action Hotpoint closed to within four points of the Fenlanders with a fifth straight victory winning 5-0 at home to Oundle Town. Incredibly Andrew Bradley scored a hat-trick of penalties with Rob Sullivan and top scorer, Gareth Sanderson on target in their latest victory. Moulton Harrox celebrated reaching the Lincs FA Junior Cup final with a 3-1 away win at Lincolnshire rivals Pinchbeck United. Joe Townsend and Ian Locke and an own goal set up the victory with Gavin Posey notching United's lone reply. Another Lincolnshire outfit, Stamford Belvedere gained their biggest Premier Division win since they were promoted back into the top flight last term as they thrashed Long Sutton Athletic 8-1. Infact Bels rang up a 7-0 half time advantage in a one sided encounter. Michael Webb, Dave Cramp and Richard Thompson all grabbed two with Graeme Theodore and Jake Parsons also on target. Matt Radelof restored little pride with Sutton's token effort.

Bottom side Ryhall United were another struggling side on the end of a mauling. Any hope United had of repeating their one and only success of the season looked good early on as they went ahead of Peterborough Sports when Martin Neal scored. However it was to prove the only positive of another disappointing day at the office for Ryhall. Goals from Robbie Osker and Jon Harrison put Sports in front before the break with Harrison completing his hat-trick after the interval. Further strikes from Colin McInerney (2) and Robbie Osker secured the win. If goals were aplenty in these last two games then there were none to be seen in a goalless affair at Uppingham. However the visitors Wimblington Old Boys will be pleased to have lost the tag of being the only top flight side to have not kept a clean sheet this season.

Ortonians grip on the Premier Division title was loosened still further at the weekend as they fell to a 1-0 home defeat to their likely successors, Whittlesey United. Mario Palazzo was on hand to take advantage of some slack home defending to force home the winner in the 10th minute of an often disappointing encounter spoilt by the windy conditions. This win for United took them to within two points of Ortonians who were joined at the top by Perkins Sports. The Eastfield based side drew level on points, althoigh not goals after Dean Clarke and Michael Dudley were on target for them in a 2-1 victory over Long Sutton Athletic, whose lone reply came from Michael Laing. Leverington Sports remain in third spot after following their odd goal in five success at home to an improving Peterborough Sports side. The Peterborough side took a first half lead thanks to James Horner before strikes from Neil Cousins and Danny Leaf turned the game in Leverington favour. However Horner restored parity just after the hour. The points remained in Leverington when a wind assisted strike from Jamie Muffitt maintained their title challenge.

Elsewhere Hotpoint went nap against luckless Wimblington Old Boys. Adam Bevilacqua led the way with a couple of goals, with Andrew Bradley, Stuart Eason and Rob Sullivan also on the mark. Meanwhile inconsistant Oundle Town had one of their better days as they sent Parson Drove packing beating them 4-1. This was thanks to an excellent second half display from Town during which Dan Kelly added to his first half opener and John Rhodes grabbed to two to make Michael Cozens's equaliser fruitless. Stamford Belvedere earned their first win of 2005 as two Michael Duff goals were enough to see his side defeat Pinchbeck United 2-0. Finally Alconbury continued their improvement under new management with an easy 4-0 success at Uppingham Town. Dwayne Rankin, Luke Weston, Alec Dalton and Leighton Atkins ensured a fifth straight defeat for the one time leaders.

Saturday 5th February 2005

Ryhall United haven't often make the headlines on the field for the right reasons this season. So it is appropriate that they should take centre stage this week following their first win of the season. The Lincolnshire under the guidance of beleaguered boss Malcolm Neale throughly deserved all three points as they saw off PFA Senior Cup Semi-Finalists Wimblington Old Boys running out 3-1 winners. The experienced Nick Clipston gave the home side a rare half time lead with 25 yard cracker and it was the manager's son Martin who doubled their lead soon after the restart with a header on his 21st birthday. However they did have some nervy moment before Neil Connell grabbed a third with ten minutes left after Wimblington had pulled one back. This victory has certainly inspired the boss into some positive spin on his sides chances of continuing their improvement and believes they still can avoid relegation.

If the miracle is performed by Ryhall then Pinchbeck United will need to be on their guard if they are to avoid bottom spot for a second year. Despite some improved performance on late United once again failed to make home advantage tell as they fell to a eighth home reverse as they lost 3-0 to Alconbury. Dwayne Rankin was keen to get the game settled as he claimed a hat-trick inside the opening quarter of an hour to settle the tie in Burys favour and ended any lingering relegation fears they may have had.

Long Sutton Athletic maybe another side looking over their shoulders following a home defeat to Parson Drove by the same score. Wayne Painter brushed Drove ahead in the first half with Michael Moore adding further goals either side of half time to complete the victory that took his side upto ninth. Peterborough Sports kept ahead of Parson Drove with an empathic 6-2 mauling of Stamford Belvedere. Recent signing Jon Harrison (2), James Horner (2), Billy Ponsford and Brett Bellamy were their scorers which led to manager Al Lenihan saying that he felt his chargers could win all of their remaining games "Our aim now is to win every game we play in and with the players we now have we are capable of doing it."

With Ortonians beating Hotpoint 3-1 on county cup duty Whittlesey United warmed up for their clash with champions next weekend with a solitary goal victory at Oundle Town to move to within five points of top spot with four games in hand. A wins a win as they say and manager Lee Minett will not care that the winner came from a Ricky Speechley spot kick. Minett said after his sides latest success, their seventh on the trot "It is games like this one against Oundle and teams like that which will make the difference between winning and losing the title. infact we can afford the luxury of losing to Ortonians twice and still lifting the title" With Whittlesey consolidating a place in the top four it was vital that Moulton Harrox recovered from last weeks defeat at Perkins Sports. It did not look good as visiting Uppingham Town, who themselves are in the middle of a poor run of form took a first halflead through top scorer, Dan Jolly. However Ian Locke (2) and Richard Cook both scored after the interval to leapfrog Uppingham in the standings. Finally second and third placed sides Perkins Sports and Leverington Sports cancelled each other out in a 2-2 at Leverington. The home side however had keeper, Adam Wright to thank for a hard earned point as he pulled off now fewer than four saves to deny Perkins, who had early recovered from falling behind to a Brendon Bird opener. Dean Clarke and Luke Elsom put the visitors ahead only for Neil Cousins to fire home an equaliser 90 seconds from time.

Saturday 29th January 2005

Whittlesey United continued to turn up the pressure on Premier Division leaders Ortonians with a fine 3-1 victory in a tricky away visit to Parsoon Drove. Drove had taken a 12th minute lead through Wayne Morton only for Dean Shepperson's to tie the scored against the run of play midway through the half. Top scorer then grabbed two quick strikes immediately after the interval that left manager Lee Minett convinced that his side could lift the championship for the first time.

Moulton Harrox failed to build on last weekend's win against Ortonians as they were outdone by a second half treble at Perkins Sports. Michael Dudley set the league's second placed side on their way on the hour with new signing adding two more in a 3-0 win. Elsom is also helping his new club get over losing Jon Harrison's services to Peterborough Sports. Harrison marked his debut for his new side as he netted their third in a 3-0 victory over bottom club Ryhall after coming on as a substitute. Jamie Graham and James Cox had both been on target in the first half.

Back at the top Ortonains had to work hard before they overcame improving Alconbury, who gave debuts to Darren Paling and Luke Weston. Mark Baines gave the champions the lead in the 25th minute. However Alconbury fought their way back onto level terms thanks to a Duane Rankin's diving header with 20 minutes remaining. However a Seth Twigden's 20-yard screamer put Ortonians back in the front before with an own goal sealing all three points. Dillion Oliver scored a hat-trick for Uppingham Town but still ended up on the losing side at title chasing Leverington Sports. Oliver tapped home a Dan Jolly cross after 12 minutes and after Brendan Bird had levelled on 40 minutes struck with a 22-yard strike to restore his side's advantage. But by the time he completed his treble with an 80th minute penalty following a foul on Andy Sayers, Leverington were 4-2 up with a Neil Cousins double sandwiching Bird's second which he slotted in after 'keeper Graham Williams had palmed out his initial penalty.

Elsewhere Hotpoint raced to a 6-0 win over Pinchbeck United which left United manager Tony Wells claiming that Hotpoint had produced the best team performance he has seen since Eye won all 30 Premier Division games four years ago. He has no doubt that Mark Speechley's side would run away with the league if they could regularly reproduce that sort of form. Wells said: "They played the sort of football I have not seen since the Eye days. If they produced that that week in week out they would win the league without doubt. Unfortunately for Hotpoint manager, Mark Speechley his side have been too inconsistant this term to lift the title. However he would be delighted after seeing Graham Morris and Gareth Sanderson each scored twice with further goals fron Chris Woollard and Simon Patterson.

Saturday 22nd January 2005

Moulton Harrox ignited their hopes of a serious title challenge as they produced a fine comeback performance to end Ortonians 13 month unbeaten away record. Their 3-2 home success also put a huge dent in the champions hopes of retaining the championship. Richard Cook put Moulton in front only for Jon Patten to restore parity with his second goal in two games since his return to the club. Before half time the visitors grabbed the lead when Darren Fogg converted a penalty following a deliberate handball by Chris Hall. Hall was correctly sent off and it gave the home side a tough challenge in the second period. However they rose to the occasion as Ortonians failed to take advantage of the extra man and they conceded goals from Cook, Tommy Treacher and former Orton man, Ian Locke as the points remained in Lincolnshire.

Moulton stay in seventh place, but will go above Ortonians if they win their five games in hand. Leverington Sports failed to take advantage of the leaders loss as they too missed out at Hotpoint. Andrew Bradley and Stuart Eason had put Sports two goals in arrears only for the Bird brothers Alan and Brendon evened things up at 2-2. However they were unable to hold on for a useful point and lost out when Bradley grabbed the winner with his second goal of the afternoon. These results presented both Perkins Sports and Whittlesey United with the opportunity to reduce the arrears at the summit and they both took up the challenge. Perkins scored four times without reply in the second half of their encounter at home to Stamford Belvedere. Carl Johnson and substitutes Gary Walker (2) and Lee Nightingale earned the victory after a goalless first half. Meanwhile Whittlesey are fast becoming everybody's favourites to lift the championship, although they had to work hard for a single goal win at home to Wimblington Old Boys. Nevertheless Wayne Morris first half strike proved enough to move United to within eight points of top spot with no fewer than five games in hand.

Elsewhere Uppingham Town slipped to a second consecutive one nil home reverse as a Teddy Rimmell stunner from 25 yards earned visiting Parson Drove a seventh league win of the campaign. Another side to win by the only goal of the game were Alconbury with Mark Elsom converting a penalty at home to Pinchbeck United to give Roger Daniels and Barry Gregory a first victory since they took the helm at the club. If you want goals then Peterborough Sports are the side to follow. The city side have only been involved in one scoreless match this term and that was the October home meeting with Oundle Town. The return match at Station Road produced six goals as the points were shared. Town had to recover from trailing 3-0 at one point as Dean Clarke, Jamie Graham and James Horner all scored for the visitors. However Dan Kelly, Ian Bradbury and co manager, Danny Clifton completed the comeback. It could have been better for the host had Lee Boreham not saved a late penalty for Sports.

Finally normal service was restored at Ryhall United as they returned to losing ways at home to nearest rivals, Long Sutton Athletic. Michael Lang led the way with hat-trick for Sutton with Nicky Russell and Stuart Parks also on the mark.

Saturday 15th January 2005

The top two sides in the Premier Division had to work hard in the second half of their respective games this week before they saw off struggling outfits.Leaders, Ortonians had to wait until a 74th minute strike from Jon Patten to forge ahead at home to a plucky Pinchbeck United, who had keeper Tom Roberts in excellent form between the posts. However Roberts could do nothing to prevent a late second from Mark Baines to complete the narrow win for the champions. Second placed Leverington Sports had to recover from a poor first half performance at home to a Stamford Belvedere side, who have not won since November. Nevertheless two goals from Brendon Bird and one from Danny Leaf finally earned all three points.

Perkins Sports defended bravely at Uppingham Town from where they returned with a single goal victory. Jon Harrision converted from the spot after Luke Elsom had been fouled. However manager, Gino Agius was delighted with his side performance with special mention for teenage defender, Tom Brown, who prevented the sections leading goal scorer, Dan Jolly from adding to his tally, in a rare blank day. Perkins stayed third, whilst Uppingham's early season title hopes have all but gone.

There were two draws in the top flight one of which saw Ryhall United earn their first point of the campaign at the 17th attempt. Just as surprising was the fact that it also saw them keep their first clean sheet of the season in goalless encounter with Alconbury. Oundle Town restored some pride after last weekend 6-0 mauling at Moulton Harrox. Dan Kelly and Sam Kingston had put Town 2-1 at Wimblington after Chris Neville had put the hosts in front. Ian Turvey then earned a share of the points with a late goal.

There has been some exciting games played out at Peterborough Sports of late and this weekend was no exception. Sports took the lead in their home game with Parson Drove through Billy Ponsford with Simon Brown doubling the advantage after Lee Boreham had saved a Teddy Rimmell penalty to send Sports in at half time two goals to the good. The second half begin in spectactular style as Michael Moore reduced the deficit for the visitors within minutes of the switch round. Substitute, Dean Clarke soon restored the two goal lead with a third. Drove were then given a way back into the encounter when Sports keeper, Boreham was red carded after he kicked out at Moore. The resultant spot kick was successful converted past replacement keeper, Ponsford to set up a grandstand finish. However a late dismissal for Teddy Rimmell all but ended the visitors hopes of a point.

Leverington Sports began the new year with a 4-0 win at struggling Pinchbeck United to cut Ortonians lead at the top of The Premier Division to five points. Neil Cousins continued in 2005 where he left off in 2004 in good form as he grabbed a hat-trick with Danny Foulsham on target to complete the win. With the champions game at Stamford Belvedere being called off Whittlesey United also took full advantage with a victory. Mind you they had to come from behind before seeing off Long Sutton Athletic 4-1 to remain fourth. Stuart Bailey had given Sutton the lead, but United turned it around with goals from George Goodale, Dean Shepperson and Wayne Morris after a Gary Disdel own goal had levelled the scores. Uppingham Town returned to winning ways as they crushed crisis club Ryhall United 9-0.Top Scorer Dan Jolly scored four, with Dillion Oliver, Andy Sayers, Henry King and an own goal also on target.

Moulton Harrox who have spent most of the season in mid-table will hope to challenge the leaders in 2005. They got off to the best possible start as they beat Oundle Town 6-0. Ian Locke was another striker to help himself to four for Harrox including a hat-trick in a second half that yielded five goals as Oundle Town collapsed much to the disgust of boss Seb Hayes, who saw his side also concede strikes from Chris Hall and Joe Townsend.

Hotpoint remain above Moulton in the standings as they narrowly beat Peterborough Sports by the odd goal in three.Top Scorer Gareth Sanderson brought all three points from Mark Speechley's men after Simon Brown had earlier cancelled out a Stuart Addinall opener.Elsewhere Perkins Sports lost further ground as they were held to a 1-1 draw at Parson Drove. Steve Thompson gave the home team the advantage before Jon Harrison restored parity and earned a point. Finally Alconbury's new life under the stewardship of Roger Daniels and Barry Gregory got off to a disappointing start as they were humbled at home to inconsistant Wimblington Old Boys, who had one of their better days with a 4-1 success.Elliott Reeder (2), Lavislav Szasz and Stuart Goddard all scored in the first half to effectively end the contest. Phil Nickolay gave his new bosses some hope for the future with a second period reply.

Saturday 18th December 2004

Uppingham Town were given a footballing lesson by champions, Ortonians as their challenge for the title was all but ended at Werrington. In a game switched from the league leaders normal Campbell Drive home the season surprise side had no answer to a rampant Ortonians who stormed to a 8-1 victory. Top scorer Lee Ayres continued his recent rich vein of form with a hat-trick with fellow stike partner Glen Bolden weighing with a brace. Steve Paling, Mark Baines and Paul Attfield added further goals to complete the rout with Dan Jolly scoring the lone Town reply.

The champions now find themselves eight points clear as the league enters the Christmas break and this lead was helped by a surprise defeat for second placed Perkins Sports, who lost 3-2 at Alconbury. York, Davitt and Florence were on target for burys, who clinched only their second win of the season.Downing and Dare scored for Perkins. It was a perfect send off for Mark Appleyard who announced that he would be standing down as manager to be replaced in the new year by a new management team of former Eye United manager, Roger Daniels and former Ryhall boss Barry Gregory.

Leverington Sports and Whittlesey United continued their respective title challenges with victories. Leverington saw off Pinchbeck United 4-1 although it was not without having to recover from conceding an early Gavin Posey goal for United. Danny Foulsham led the way back with a couple whilst Neil Couzens and Nigel Jackson were also on the mark for Sports who stay third. Whittlesey United meanwhile fired out a huge warning of their title intentions with a superb 5-0 success at fading Hotpoint, whose own challenge seems to have died. George Goodale grabbed a brace with further goals from new signing Mario Palazzo, Micky Snitch and Ricky Speechley

There goals a plenty elsewhere in the top flight with Sam Kingston grabbing four goals as Oundle Town slaughtered Ryhall United 9-0 at Station Road. Parson Drove meanwhile moved comfortably into a mid-table berth with a fine revenge victory at Wimblington Old Boys. Drove's 6-1 success mirrored that of Old Boys Cambridgeshire FA Cup win at Drove last month. This time Wimblington could only muster a Dave Softley reply to Danny Ward's hat-trick plus further strikes from Wayne Morton and Gary Freer in a disappointing home reverse. There was a eight goal thriller at Peterborough Sports again as Sports and Long Sutton Athletic shared eight goals in a 4-4 draw. Jamie Lang grabbed a hat-trick for the visitors with Matt Radelof also on target. However goals from Graham (2) Osker and Horner meant the points were shared. With all the goals in the Premier Division flying in Moulton Harrox will have still been pleased to have secured all three points with a single Tommy Treacher goal win over local rivals Stamford Belvedere.

Saturday 11th December 2004

Ortonians continued to challenge the rest of the Premier Division sides to come and catch them at the top of the table. They clinched yet another confident victory over one of their nearest rivals, this time Hotpoint as they maintained their five point lead. Although other sides can cut down the champions lead some would like to swap the points in the bag that Ortonians have already instead of games in hand. The latest three point haul came as they defeated Hotpoint 3-1 at Woodlands. Mark Baines gave them the lead only for Adam Bevilacqua to restore parity on the half hour. Top scorer, Lee Ayres put the leaders back in front before half time and the points were clinched when Lee Davision knocked home a Paul Attfield free kick. This defeat was Hotpoints second in seven days and pushed them down to sixth, twelve points off the pace.

Whittlesey United took advantage of Hotpoint's slip to move above them following an odd goal in five success at Stamford Belvedere. George Goodale (2) and Mick Gale put United 3-1 after Graham Theodore had shot the home side in front. Try as they might Bels could not earn a point and instead had to be content with a late Malcolm Duff spot kick as a consolation. Whittlesey are beginning to show the level of consistancy required to make a serious challenge as are Leverington Sports, who seem to have recovered their early season promise to move up to third. Sports are also in the last four of the PFA Senior Cup and they earned another impressive victory as the won at fellow semi-finalists Wimblington Old Boys. Nigel Jackson and Neil Cozens scored to leave John Thurston's late strike meaningless.

Perkins Sports seem to have also recovered from a double defeat a fortnight ago to win again to stay second. This week they made light work of Pinchbeck United with Mark Downing (2), Lee Harbour and debutant Luke Elsom on target in an easy win. Meanwhile Uppingham Town title surge seems to be running out of puff. They followed up last weekend home reverse to Whittlesey United with the further dropping of two valuable home points to Oundle Town in a 3-3 draw. The home side will be kicking themselves for allowing their visitors to equalise on three seperate occasions before surrendering a vital point. Efforts from Joe Clarke, Dan Jolly and Dillon Oliver were cancelled out by replies from Dan Kelly (twice) and Mark Saunders. Finally in the top flight Peterborough Sports and Alconbury shared four goals in a 2-2 draw. Pat Dooner and Robbie Osker scored for Sports with Gareth Jones and Alec Dalton replying for burys.

Tuesday 7th December 2004

The Marshall Peterborough & District Football League enjoyed a great night as they returned to the city following a resounding 6-1 victory over their Bedford League counterparts. In a game which formed part of the host leagues centenary celebration satrt badley for the Peterborough League who went behind after just three minutes. However they side grew in stature as the player got to know each other, and restored parity through Ryan Francis a couple of minutes later. As the first half wore on Peterborough slowly got on top and Robbie Osker scored from in front of the keeper after the ball was played on from a corner. A third followed shortly afterwards, with John Ball breaking through the middle and before releasing Elliott Reeder who finished in some style. By now Bedford were offering very little resistance as their defence failed to cope with the energy of Robbie Osker.A spate of half time substitutions failed to halt Peterborough ascendance and John Harrison put the result beyond doubt with a neat finish over the head of the keeper. Further goals followed for Ryan Francis with another tidy finish and John Harrison rounded things off with a quickly taken free kick.

If anything the scoreline flattered Bedford who were well and truly routed. This even surpassed the 3-0 win against them at Deeping two years ago. An excellent performance with wonderful movement from both the midfield and forwards. Once the defence settled down, they had the Bedford forwards well under wraps with Steve Thompson particularly dominant. Behind them Dave Beeney did not drop a ball all night. It augurs well for the National Championship, which starts again after Christmas.Despite some late withdrawls etc. we put out the following strong side: -

Dave Beeney (Ortonians), Ben Russell (Parson Drove), Darren Earth (Moulton), Lee Davison (Ortonians), Steve Thompson (Parson Drove), Mark Baines (Ortonians), Lee Marshall (Leverington), John Ball (Moulton), Robbie Osker (PSL), Elliott Reeder (Wimblington), Ryan Francis (Perkins)

Subs: Darren Fogg (Ortonians), John Harrison (Perkins), Lee Harbour (Perkins), Lee Nightingale (Perkins)

Saturday 4th December 2004

Hotpoint were the latest title challengers to slip up in this weekend and it was Wimblington Old Boys who inflicted a defeat on one of champions, Ortonians closest rivals. Just seven days after Oundle Town had rocked second placed Perkins Sports with a 2-1 success Old Boys grabbed all three points with another victory by the same score at Woodlands. Inspired by a superb performance by their keeper Lambert Wimblington recovered from falling behind to a Chris Pippard penalty to pinch all three points. Stuart Goddard restored parity also from the spot with Elliott Reeder scoring the all important winner ten minutes from time.

Hotpoint have an early chance to move back into the championship race next weekend when they play Ortonians. The latter continued their assault on the title with a hard fought 2-1 success over Oundle Town. Glen Bolden scored both against his old club with Louis Fitzgerald scoring Oundle's reply. Second placed Perkins Sports returned to winning ways after a routine victory at Peterborough Sports.Lee Harbour set them on their way after 10 minutes before Jonathan Hands sealed the points with a fine finish 15 minutes from time.

Uppingham Town suffered a disappointing 4-0 reverse at home to title rivals Whittlesey United top scorer George Goodale as well as Wayne Morris, Scott Lazenby and Mario Palazzo were on the mark for Lee Minett's men who now lie 11 points behind leaders Ortonians but with five matches in hand. Leverington Sports also boosted their championship hopes as they inflicted a first away defeat on Moulton Harrox for over 15 months. Sports completed a league double over Moulton as goals from Lee Marshall, Carl Leonard and Neil Cozens earned a 3-1 success.Nigel Steadman headed the Moulton Harrox reply.Elsewhere Parson Drove earned a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Stamford Belvedere. Ben Russell and Michael Moore turned the game in Drove's favour after Michael Duff had earlier puts Bels ahead. Meanwhile Pinchbeck United earned a comfortable, if not rare 4-0 success over Long Sutton Athletic. Gavin Posey (2), Dan Green and Jamie Cartiledge condemned second bottom Sutton to a resounding defeat against their local rivals.

A trio of Premier Division sides failed to take advantage of title chasing Ortonians and Hotpoint’s' adventures in The Hunts FA Senior Cup. Perkins Sports were surprisingly defeated at home for the second consecutive weekend. Although visitors Oundle Town had goalkeeper Paul Ambler to thank before returning home to Station Road with superb 2-1 victory. Ambler pulled off a fantastic penalty save to deny Lee Harbour a second half equaliser after goals from Dave Thomas and Martin Jenkins had eclipsed the Perkins reply from Ryan Francis. Moulton Harrox and Whittlesey United dropped to sixth and seventh respectively after they shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw at Moulton. The controlled the first 45 minutes and richly deserved a bigger reward than the single goal advantage given to them by Rob Imlah at the break. The Fenlanders were to rue the first half lack of converted chances as Harrox grabbed a point through Richard Cook 54th minutes equaliser.

Leverington Sports were the main benefactors of this stalemate as they inflicted another defeat on First Division bound Ryhall United. Danny Foulsham, Neal Cozens (2), Carl Leonard (2) ensured that replies from Goose and Horan meant nothing in terms of points. It also moved Sports up to fifth. There was an action packed thriller at Long Sutton Athletics’ London Road ground as visitors Wimblington Old Boys nicked all three points in a seven goal feast. The home side led through Jamie Lang only to see John Thurston and Craig Williams turn the game in Wimblington's favour. The ding dong affair continued as Matt Radeloff and Ian Spelman each scored for Sutton to restore their lead. Just as it looked as if it would be enough to secure only a third win of the season disaster struck as Elliott Reeder and Lavislav Szasz snatched the points with minutes to spare.

Elsewhere Stamford Belvedere won for the first time since early October with a 3-1 home success over Peterborough Sports. Michael Webb scored twice with Malcolm Duff also on target after an Andrew Hewitt spot kick had earlier levelled scores. Pinchbeck United moved out of the bottom two with a rare clean sheet in a goalless draw with Parson Drove.

Away from the league both Ortonians and Hotpoint had good wins in The Hunts Senior Cup. The former eased to a 6-2 victory at hapless Warboys, still without a win this season. Lee Ayres (2), Lee Davision, Steve Bennett, Steve Paling and Mark Baines all hit the target to set a Quarter-Final tie with Hotpoint. The city based side clinched their place in the last eight with a fine 2-0 at St Neots Town. Danny Steward set them on the way to a famous victory scoring after just 20 seconds. Top Scorer Gareth Sanderson secured the win with a second.

Premier Division champions Ortonians showed all the right creditentials to retain the title this season as they put a dent in the hopes of one of their main pretenders to their crown. Perkins Sports, who had lost only one in eight, also to the holders were thumped 5-2 at Eastfield. This was despite taking the lead, albeit against the run of play through a Lee Nightingale effort. However Lee Ayres with a brace led the fightback whilst further goals from Steve Paling, Mark Baines and Seth Twigden completed a very professional job to increase their side's lead at the top to four points. James Martyn grabbed a late consolation for Perkins, who drop to third

One fly in the ointment for the champions hopes could be Hotpoint. They sounded out a warning of their intentions with a fine 6-1 success away to Pinchbeck United to consolidate fourth spot. Once again the goals were shared around for Mark Speechley's men as Ian Rudd, Graham Morris, Stuart Addinall, Danny Steward, Chris Crotwell and an own goal contributed to this latest victory and extended their unbeaten run to four, all of which have been victories.

Uppingham Town refuse to be shrugged off in the race for the title. The season's surprise package continued their fine form as they made it eight victories in twelve starts. Their latest win came in the shape of a 3-1 at under achieving Oundle Town and equalled last seasons total of wins. Andy Bryant, Andy Sayers and Dan Jolly gave Uppingham a three goal advantage before Dave Thomas pulled a goal back late on. Ian Bradbury then missed penalty as the visitors run out worthy winners to take up second spot. The impressive Tommy Treacher helped himself to a hat-trick as his Moulton Harrox side thumped Alconbury 6-0 to heap more pressure on bury boss, Mark Appleyard. Last seasons beaten PFA Senior finalists, lanquishing in the bottom four with only one victory had no answer for the Lincolnshire outfit who added further goals from Ian Locke, Andy Williams and Nigel Steadman as Harrox entered the top five. Elsewhere Parson Drove picked up all three points as goals from Danny Ward, James Patrick and Paul Shaifer earned them a 3-0 success over struggling Long Sutton Athletic.

Saturday 13th November 2004

Perkins Sports warmed up for their top of the table clash with Ortonians next weekend with a convincing 4-1 victory over fellow title challengers, Leverington Sports. It was Perkins seventh win in eight starts although they had to come from behind before clinching all three points. Danny Foulsham had given the vistors the perfect start with a seventh strike before Lee Harbour restored parity at the first half mid-point. The scores stayed level until after the break when home side took complete control of events with a Ryan Francis brace and a Jon Harrison penalty completing a fine win. This success sets up next weeks return with the reigning champions, Ortonians, hoping to complete a league double when the sides meet at Eastfield. The champions won the first clash by the only goal of the game unlike Saturdays mauling of bottom side Ryhall United where goals Darren Fogg (3), Lee D'Arcy, Eddie Patten, Seth Twigden, Steve Paling and Paul Attfield ensured a 8-0 victory to maintain their two point advantage at the top.

Uppingham Town remain in third spot after Dillon Oliver and Kevin Cliffe were both on target in their sides 2-0 success at Pinchbeck United. Meanwhile Hotpoint manager, Mark Speechley was delighted with what he described his sides best performance of the season a 2-0 win at Parson Drove. Andrew Bradley kept up his recent good goalscoring form with a 20th minute opener before top scorer, Gareth Sanderson secured the victory with a second 10 minutes from time.

Elsewhere there was a ding dong affair at PSL as the home side Peterborough Sports run out winners by the odd goal in seven against PFA Semi-Finalist, Wimblington Old Boys. Mark Southwell scored an own goal as well as scoring at the right end for the Old Boys, whilst Lavislav Szasz gave the visitors a half time lead. Robbie Osker brough the scores level with a 30 yard effort only to see Marcus Panks restore Wimblington's advantage soon after. However despite missing a late penalty Sports earned all three points as late strikes fron James Cox and Dean Clarke sealed the win. Finally Oundle Town and Whittlesey United also chalked up victories The latter saw off Alconbury 5-3 whilst the former came away from Stamford Belvedere with a useful 2-0 success Danny Kelly and Ian Bradbury were Town's scorers.

Perkins Sports, Leverington Sports and Hotpoint all took advantage of their rivals involvement in the Peterborough Football Association Senior Cup with league victories. All these successes helped to close the gap at the head of the Premier Division table. Perkins Sports showed no mercy at Long Sutton Athletic as they made it four wins in five league outings with a resounding 5-1 victory at London Road. The home side's leading scorer Matt Stancer was again on target but the hosts had no answer as Sports turned it around before the break with a Jon Harrison spot kick and a Tony Timbrell strike. Further goals from second half substitutes Ryan Francis and James Martin together with a Lee Nightingale goal sent the Eastfield side upto second place in the standings

Leverington Sports recent return to form saw them move back into fourth spot with a useful 4-2 victory at Oundle Town. Neil Couzens scored twice on his debut. James McManus had earlier equalised a Martin Thorpe opener for the home side before Couzens double strike. Brendon Bird then continued his goalscoring run with a fourth from the spot before Dave Thomas converted another spot kick to reduce the arrears. Hotpoint earned their sixth win of the season as they built on last weekends excellant away victory at leaders Ortonians with a routine 7-0 success at home to rock bottom Ryhall United. However the scoreline was not as flattering at the break as the two sides were only divided by a Graham Morris goal. However a half time pep talk from boss, Mark Speechley had the desired effect as Chris Crotwell (2), Chris Woollard, Steve Woodward, Adam Bevilacqua and Stuart Addinall all netted to ensure the rout was complete.

Elsewhere Parson Drove bounced back from their PFA Senior Cup defeat on penalties to Leverington last week with victory at Alconbury. First-half goals from James Patrick and Steve Thompson gave them a 2-1 win. Meanwhile Peterborough Sports eased to a 2-0 victory over struggling Pinchbeck United thanks to goals from Dean Clarke and James Cox.

In the PFA Senior Cup Moulton Harrox set themselves up with a chance to banish last seasons semi-final heartache as they reached the last four again with an impressive fightback victory at another of last terms semi-finalist, Uppingham Town. Trailing to first half strikes from Kenny Cliffe and an own goal that looked to to have ensured another last four appearance for Town the Lincolnshire outfit had other things to say as they stormed back into the contest with a tremendous second 45 minutes. Veteran striker, Ian Locke led the fightback with a brace with further strikes from Nigel Steedman and Andy Williams completing the turnaround.

Elsewhere holders Ortonians kept alive their hopes of retaining the trophy as they overcame a potential banana skin at Whittlesey United. The Fenlanders, who saw off Perkins Sports in the first round came up short this time around as they lost 2-1 to the holders, who had Glenn Bolden and Steve Paling on target, whilst Mick Gale scored for United late on.Infact they were denied a crack at extra time as a last minute header agonising rebounded off the far post and back into play. Another Fenland outfit faired better however. Wimblington Old Boys did need extra-time before they finally overcame Stamford Belvedere by the odd goal in five. Elliot Reeder and Mark Southwell each gave the Old Boys the advantage only for Graham Haig and Jake Parsons to restore parity on both occasions. However a last minute extra-time winner from Elliott Reeder ensured victory and set up a second Senior Cup Sem-Final appearance for Wimblington in three years.

Former Ortonians, frontman, Andrew Bradley returned to haunt his old team mates with the only goal in his new club Hotpoint's narrow victory. Bradley who only left Campbell Drive last month grabbed the winner from the penalty spot and in doing so blew the Premier Division title race wide open. Despite this loss Ortonians still retain a four point lead after second placed Uppingham Town were surprisingly held to a 2-2 draw at Long Sutton Athletic. Dan Jolly kept up his goalscoring exploits with the opener only to see strikes from Ian Spelman and Nicky Russell give the home side a deserved advantage. However Town were given a route back into the game as Danny Sheehan came off the bench to earn a point with a 78th minute leveller.

Perkins Sports kept up the pressure on the leading two as goals from Jon Harrison (2) and Jonathan Hands proved too much for struggling Pinchbeck United. Elsewhere Moulton Harrox moved into fourth place with a 5-2 home success over an under achieving Alconbury outfit Tommy Treacher grabbed a hat-trick with fellow strike partner Ian Locke grabbing the other two. Danskin and Davitt replied for Alconbury. Meanwhile Wimblington Old Boys won for only the second time this term as they saw off Peterborough Sports 4-2. There was still no respite for Ryhall United as they fell to their 11th straight defeat as first half goals from Bruce McWilliams and Ian Bradbury gave Oundle Town a 2-0 victory.

On the cup scene Leverington Sports became the first side to reach the semi-finals of this seasons PFA Senior Cup, but they had to work very hard to overcome the plucky resistance of Parson Drove. Sports finally reached the last four. Drove infact sped into a a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Billy Smith and Steve Thompson. However a Brendon Bird spot kick and an equaliser from brother Bird perked up the visitors who went onto win a dramatic penalty shoot out after the two sides had failed to add to the 2-2 scoreline after extra time.

Elsewhere there was full programme in The Junior Cup with the holders Eye Sports and Social brushing aside Langtoft United Reserves 8-0. Matthew Leftley led the way with a hat-trick. They now meet Stilton United in a repeat of last season last eight tie after United earned themselves a thrilling 5-3 victory over Guyhirn. Coates Athletic will visit Leverington Sports 'A' in the Quarters following their 5-0 home success over Crowland Town, whilst Leverington needed extra-time to fight off the resistance of Peterborough Rovers before running out 3-1 winners. Kings Cliffe Reserves were another side to require extra-time to see off Gedney Hill Reserves by the odd goal in seven. Cliffe now entertain a Woodlands Reserves side in the next round after the latter won 5-1 at Werrington Town Reserves side. The other last eight tie will see Peterborough Sports Reserves host Chatteris Town Reserves after the two sides beat Wimblington Old Boys Reserves
(3-2) and Stamford Belvedere Reserves (3-1) respectively.

Mid-table Moulton Harrox pulled off a tremendous fightback in their Premier Division clash at champions Ortonians. Harrox, who have not lost an away game for 17 matches found themselves on the end of a whirlwind start by the league leaders as Mark Baines, Eddie Patten and Matt Rayson fired them into a 3-0 first half lead. An early second half John Ball goal gave the visitors hope and when former Ortonians frontman, Ian Locke halved the deficit it was game on. With less than three minutes remaining Tommy Treacher completed the fightback and earned his side a deserved point.

Leverington Sports recovered from last weeks disappointing home reverse to Ortonians as they inflicted only a second defeat on fellow title challengers, Whittlesey United. Danny Foulsham grabbed a brace in the encounter with Carl Leonard also scored as Sports, like Ortonians turned around 3-0 up. Whittlesey, however failed to repeat Moulton Harrox' feat as goals from Jamie Lazenby and George Goodale saw them come up just short in a 3-2 reverse. With several Premier Division sides involved in County Cup action and Uppingham Town's home match with Hotpoint being called off there was just on other top flight game . This saw Ryhall United lose again at home, although there was much improved performance this week. Nevertheless they still lost out as Dan Haw scored the only goal as Pinchbeck United left with all three points.

Saturday 16th October 2004

Leverington Sports fine start to the season continued to evaporate as champions, Ortonians kept up their head of steam at the summit of the Premier Division table after they won by the odd goal in five at Church Road.It all look good for Leverington as Danny Foulsham gave them a first minute lead. However goals Lee D'Arcy, Steve Paling and Mark Baines put the visitors in command by half time. Despite a second half penalty from Brendon Bird it was not enough to prevent a seventh league win in ten starts for the title holders and helped maintain their four point advantage. The season's surprise package Uppingham Town won for the fourth time on the road with a 3-1 success at a disappointing Wimblington Old Boys, who remain in the bottom three after this latest setback. The divisions leading scorer Dan Jolly was on target for Town after five minutes with further goals from Andy Sayers and Joe Clarke. Carl Young had earlier equalised for Wimblington.

Hotpoint's recent revival came to an abrupt at Perkins Sports. The home side earned a 4-2 success at Eastfield thanks in the main to a hat-trick from Jon Harrison. Ryan Francis was their other scorer with Graham Morris and new signing, Andrew Bradley replying for Hotpoint. Alconbury won their first game of the campaign at the ninth attempt. However it was no surprise given that the opposition were struggling Ryhall United, who have now conceded 52 goals this term already. Anthony Razario helped himself to a hat-trick with further goals for Alec Dalton,John Danskin, Phil Nickolay,Seamus Doyle and Kyle Crick completing the 8-1 rout. Ryhall lone consolation came from Richard Sorbea. If their goals were aplenty at Alconbury then there was a destinct lack of chances taken at the game between Peterborough Sports and Oundle Town, although both managers would no doubt be pleased to see their respective sides earn their clean sheets for the first time this season in a goalless stalemate. Oundle keeper, Paul Ambler saved a Danny Wilder spot kick to save a point for his team mates.

Whittlesey United moved up into third place in the Premier Division table after a convincing 5-1 home victory over Peterborough Sports. George Goodale also moved in to the top three of the scoring charts as he led the way with a hat-trick. Scott Lazenby and Ricky Speechley were also on target. Pat Dooner grabbed the lone reply for Sports. With Uppingham Town without a game Ortonians took full advantage to increase their lead to four points. This was after they earned themselves a tidy 4-0 win over Long Sutton Athletic at Campbell Drive. Top scorer, Lee Ayres again scored, as did, Lee Davison, Samir Balti and Darren Fogg.

Leverington Sports lost further ground in the title race. After a bright start to the league campaign their form has stalled. They followed up last weekend's home defeat to Hotpoint with a disappointing 1-1 draw at Alconbury. Stalwart, Brendon Bird spot kick was cancelled out by Mick Bullard's header for the home side in the dying stages. Meanwhile Hotpoint made it three straight victories with an excellent 2-0 home victory over a dangerous looking Parson Drove outfit, who had started to find their feet in the top flight. Strikes from in form Gareth Sanderson and Stuart Addinall did for Drove this week however and kept Hotpoint on the heals of the chasing pack. Tommy Treacher earned Moulton Harrox all three points from their trip to Lincolnshire rivals Stamford Belvedere, who themselves missed a chance to go second. Stuart Goddard grabbed a vital brace for his side Wimblington Old Boys in their first win of the season a 2-1 success at Pinchbeck United. Andy Gardner replied for the home side.

Whatever Hotpoint manager, Mark Speechley had to say to his troops after their recent disappointing PFA Senior exit to Ortonians seems to have done the trick. Since then they defeated Alconbury 4-0 and followed up that success with arguably the result of the Premier Division campaign thus far as four goal Gareth Sanderson wrecked Leverington Sports perfect start. Sports who hadn't played in the league since the start of September had no answer to a resurgent city side who have bounced back in real style since the cup defeat. Speechley speaking from a golf course in Portugal was delighted with the response his side have given since his outburst, none more so than Sanderson who reached double figures for the season after this performance.

Champions, Ortonians stayed top of the pile after a single goal from the in form Lee Ayres was enough to see off Perkins Sports. Uppingham Town recovered from last weeks mauling at Whittlesey United to return to winning ways in a 5-3 success at Alconbury. This was despite trailing twice. Chris Davitt and Alec Dalton had both given the home side the advantage, only for top scorer Dan Jolly to wreck their hopes of a first league win with four goals. Andy Sayers was also on target before Davitt scored a late consolation. Meanwhile Whittlesey United themselves continued their recent good form as they went one better by hitting six of the best away from home at Long Sutton Athletic. George Goodale (2), Jamie Lazenby (2) Dean Shepperson and Mick Gale were their scorers after Nick Russell had given Athletic and early advantage.

Moulton Harrox grabbed all three points as they beat Peterborough Sports for the second successive weekend. They followed up their 5-0 PFA Senior victory with a closer but still big enough 4-1 victory at Broad Lane. John Ball was again on target twice with further strikes from Richard Cooke and Andy Williams.Ryan Inns replied for Sports from the spot. Elsewhere Stamford Belvedere won the Stamford derby at home to luckless Ryhall with five different scorers on target in a 6-0 win. Parson Drove earned their third win on the spin with a 4-1 victory over Pinchbeck United. Finally there was drama off the field ahead of Oundle Town's visit to Wimblington Old Boys. Town's manager Danny Clifton and two of his players were involved a car accident on the way to the venue and the game had to be cancelled. Thankfully nobody was injured.

Saturday 25th September 2004

League leaders Uppingham Town were dislodged from the top of the Premier Division after they were humbled by Whittlesey United. The Fenlanders made it three league wins in four starts as goals from George Goodayle (2), Wayne Morris, Jamie Lazenby and Dean Shepperson fired them to a resounding 5-2 win. Joe Clarke and Dillon Oliver replied for Town who drop to second. Their place at the head of the table is taken by champions, Ortonians, who thumped Pinchbeck United 8-1 at Knight Street. Lee Ayres, Glen Bolden and Steve Paling all helped themselves to a brace a piece with Lee Davidson and Mark Booth also on target.

Newly promoted Parson Drove finally got their season into gear as they earned their first three point haul of the campaign. Their 3-2 success at bottom side Ryhall United came after two goals from Michael Moore (2), and James Patrick. This result enabled Drove to leapfrog Wimblington Old Boys, who could only draw 1-1 at Stamford Belvedere and Alconbury, whose disappointing start continued as Gareth Sanderson (2), Stuart Eason and Rob Sullivan led Hotpoint to a straight forward 4-0 success at Woodlands after manager, Mark Speechley made five changes from the side that crashed out of the PFA Senior cup last weekend. In that very same competition Moulton Harrox reached the Quarter-Finals as they beat Peterborough Sports 5-0. Tommy Treacher and John Ball were each on target twice with Richard Cooke also amongst the goals.

Saturday 18th September 2004

PFA Senior Cup holders Ortonians marched into the quarter-finals of this season's competition with a resounding 4-1 victory over much fancied Hotpoint. Once again it was Hotpoint lack of fire power that left manager, Mark Speechley frustrated as he saw is side undone by two goal Lee Ayres, Mark Baines and Samir Balti. This was all after Stuart Addinall has given Hotpoint a third minute lead. However it was to prove their lone reply as the holders wrapped up victory. It was day of close high scoring encounters elsewhere. Premier Division leaders, Uppingham Town trailed twice to visitors, Oundle Town before finally securing a place in the last eight with a 4-3 extra-time victory. Joe Clarke grabbed the winner after earlier strikes from Dillon Oliver (2) and Dan Jolly. Stamford Belvedere bounced back from their league reverse at Long Sutton Athletic last weekend to gain revenge this weekend also by a 4-3 scoreline. Last seasons beaten finalists Alconbury will not be requiring the suits this season however as they were beaten by a similar scoreline at Parson Drove.Moore grabbed a hat-trick for Drove with Thompson also on target.

Their were two matches played in The Premier Division. Perkins Sports went second after a thumping 8-0 away victory at Ryhall United. Ryan Francis led the way with a hat-trick, with further goals from Mark Elsom (2), Leighton Atkins, Jon Harrison and Jonathan Hands. Meanwhile Peterborough Sports followed up their victory over Ortonians last weekend with a hard fought 3-2 victory over a much improved Pinchbeck United. Smith, Leishman and Ponsford ensured the three points after Posey and Chamberlin had scored for the home side.

Saturday 11th September 2004

With league leaders Leverington Sports in PFA Senior Cup action, champions Ortonians failed to take advantage of their inactivity as they were surprisingly beaten by Peterborough Sports at home. Sports who were earning their first victory of the campaign actually went behind to a Lee Ayres goal before a brace either side of half time from Dean Clarke inflicted the first league defeat on Ortonians since December 2003. If the champions could not take over at the top then Uppingham Town certainly did not pass up the chance as they also came from behind to impressively inflict a second league defeat of the season on Hotpoint. The Rutlanders trailed twice early on following efforts from Stuart Addinall and Adam Bevilacqua for Hotpoint. However goals from Joe Clarke (2), Andy Sayers and Dillon Oliver secured all the three points for Town as they lead the table for the first time in the club's history.

Elsewhere in the top flight, Alconbury's hopes of a first league win were thwarted as Ian Bradbury equalised for travelling Oundle Town, whilst Long Sutton Athletic scored their second victory of the season winning 2-1 at home to Stamford Belvedere with Stancer and Redelof on target. Stamford have an early chance for revenge asd the two side clash next weekend in The PFA Senior Cup. This weekend saw three ties in this competition settled with league leaders Leverington Sports continuing there perfect start to the season with a 3-1 home success over Pinchbeck United. Wimblington Old BOys recovered from last weeks battering at the hands of Perkins Sports as they inflicted a 7-1 drubbing on struggling Ryhall United. Meanwhile Perkins Sports themselves will be glad to see the back of Whittlesey United as they crashed out to the Fenlanders 1-0 just two weeks after a similar score settled their recent league meeting.

The action in Division One saw Deeping Rangers 'A' retain their 100% start with a 3-1 home victory over Woodlands. Ramsey town moved upto second spot with a 2-1 success at struggling Silver Jubilee. They are joined on seven points by Perkins Sports who won by the same score at home to Gedney Hill and Crowland Town, who won by the only goal at home to much fancied Ortonians Reserves. Chatteris Town kept up with the early pacesetters with a narrow single goal victory away to Hereward Old Boys. In Division Two there were some goals as league leaders Werrington Town were held to a thrilling 4-4 draw at home by Netherton United with Maloney (2), Cooper and Hempson on target for the villagers, with Preston (2), Rhodes and Baxter replying for United . March Town United Reserves secured their first win of the season by inflicting a third straight defeat on Oundle Town Reserves running out 6-3 victors at Station Road. Oundle Town's second string are only kept off of bottom spot by Manea United, who continue to struggle following last seasons relegation as they were thrashed 7-0 at home by Wimblington Harriers.

Leverington Sports signed off from league duty ahead of two weeks of cup action by maintaining their 100% start to the Peugeot Premier Division season. Sports who entertain Pinchbeck United in The Peterborough Football Association Senior Cup next weekend returned from Peterborough Sports with all three points following a 3-1 win.Brendon Bird, Carl Leonard and Horspool where on target for Leverington with Ronnie Leishman grabbing the lone reply for the home side. Leverington lead the table with four wins out of four and are a point ahead of champions, Ortonians, who returned to winning ways after two draws with a 4-2 victory at newly promoted Parson Drove. Glenn Bolden and Lee Ayres each scored a brace apiece after Patrick had put the new boys ahead, Markille then scored in the last minute to give the score an air of respectability.

Perkins Sports fired a warning to the rest of the division as they went fourth following their second half nap hand at home to Wimblington Old Boys. Gary Walker and Mark Elsom each scored twice with Leighton Atkins completing the 5-0 rout. Perkins are joined on 10 points by Uppingham Town and Stamford Belvedere. The latter saw off Alconbury 4-2 whilst the former enjoyed another good day in front of goal as they did for Long Sutton Athletic 4-1 with Dan Jolly once again on target with a couple, Dillon Oliver and Kevin Cliffe also scored. Whittlesey United unbeaten start came to an abrupt end at home to Moulton Harrox. Joe Townsend and Andy Williams secured all three points in a 2-0 success for the Lincolnshire outfit. Elsewhere in the top flight Oundle Town grabbed an excellent 3-2 victory at home to much fancied Hotpoint. Luke Weston (2) put the home side two goals up however replies from Gareth Sanderson and Shaun Bingham tied the scores only for substitute, Louis Fitzgerald to grab a late winner. Things are going from worse to worse for poor Ryhall United as they slipped to a fifth straight reverse this time at fellow strugglers Pinchbeck United who gained their first win of the season in a 4-1 success thanks to goals from Jodie Lesage, Robbie Relf, Leigh Boekestyn and Danny Green. Griffen scored a consolation for Ryhall.

Ortonians went back to the top of The Premier Division, although they were made to fight hard to gain a share of the points as they were held to 2-2 draw at home by Wimblington Old Boys. Infact the champions had to twice come from behind in an exciting contest. Old Boys grabbed the advantage when Daniel Brownlow scored only for Andrew Bradley to restore parity from the spot after Mark Baines had been fouled. Stuart Goddard then regained the advantage for the visitors. However the champions snatched a point when Glen Bolden headed home.

Watch out this season seems to be the message from Whittlesey. United followed up their fine 1-0 midweek victory at Perkins Sports with a resounding 6-0 away success at bottom side Ryhall, who are pointless after three home games. George Goodale (2), Wayne Morris (2), Lee Gale and Michael Snitch were all on target for the Fenlanders. Ryhall went bottom after this defeat and replace Pinchbeck United, who picked a rare point in a 2-2 draw at Oundle Town. It could have been better for the Lincolnshire side who led twice at Station Road. However Ian Bradbury and Martin Jenkins both replied for Oundle Town as the points were shared. It was a day of stalemates in the top flight as Stamford Belvedere were held 1-1 at home by Perkins Sports. Sports took the lead through Tony Timbrell only for the same player to put through his own goal with three minutes remaining.

Meanwhile Uppingham Town and Peterborough Sports fought out a 3-3 at Uppingham's Tod's Piece ground. The home side found themselves 3-0 down after new signings, Dean Clarke (2) and Danny Wilder seemed to have set up a win for Sports. However the Division's top scorer Dan Jolly had other things to say as he grabbed two in five minutes before he set up strike partner Dan Oliver for the equaliser.

Champions, Ortonians earned themselves a share of top spot in The Marshall Peterborough & District Football League Premier Division table with a second 4-2 away victory of the campaign. They followed Saturday's win at Ryhall United with success at Oundle Town to go level on points with Leverington Sports.Mark Baines grabbed is third and fourth goals of the season for his new club with Gavin McPartlin and an own goal completing the scoring for the visitors. Weston and Thomas were on target for the hosts. Meanwhile Ryhall United found Mark Speechley's Hotpoint too hot to handle as they went down to a 5-0 home reverse. Gareth Sanderson was the main benefactor on the night as he helped himself to a hat-trick. Graham Morris also chipped in with a brace. There was somewhat of a shock result at Eastfield as Whittlesey United opened their account for season with a single goal victory at title hopefuls Perkins Sports, who failed to build on Saturday's win over Alconbury. The winning goal for Whittlesey was credited as an own goal. Alconbury themselves will be a little disappointed to have to be content with share of the points as they were held to 1-1 home draw by Peterborough Sports.

Midweek Premier Division football returned to The Marshall Peterborough Football League Premier Division for the first time in eight seasons. With a full set of top flight fixtures being played tonight and on Wednesday Leverington Sports continued their 100% start with a 4-2 victory over an improved Long Sutton Athletic, who nevertheless are without a point following two away defeats. Moulton Harrox returned to winning ways as they inflicted yet more misery on Pinchbeck United as Harrox saw off their Lincolnshire rivals 5-0 at Broad Lane. Uppingham Town were unable to build on their weekend success over Pinchbeck United as they were humbled 2-1 at home by Stamford Belvedere. Meanwhile newly promoted Parson Drove will have to wait another week atleast for their debut in the the top tier after their much awaited opening game away at Wimblington Old Boys was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

There are four more Premier Division matches planned for tonight assuming the weather does not take over as champions, Ortonians have a tough looking trip to Oundle Town to contend with. Ryhall United will be hoping to recover from last Saturdays defeat at home to Ortonians as they host Hotpoint, whilst Alconbury and Perkins entertain Peterborough Sports and Whittlesey respectively.

Champions Ortonians their Marshall Peterborough & District Football League defence with a hard fought 4-2 victory at Ryhall United.Despite falling behind to an early Neil Stimson goal the champions soon restored parity through debutant Mark Baines. They then cruised into a 4-1 lead after another Baines effort and further strikes from Lee Ayres and Andrew Bradley before Shaun Burke added a bit of respectability to the scoreline with a late reply for United. Meanwhile last season Runners Up Moulton Harrox were also on the wrong end of a 4-2 result as they went down at home to last season third placed side Leverington Sports. The Fenlanders continued their run to just one defeat in twelve league outings with this excellent result. Barney Shailes (2), Brendon Bird and Stuart Horsepole scored for Wayne Garner's outfit with a Miles Foden spot kick and new signing Tommy Treacher replying for the Lincolnshire side. Elsewhere much fancied Perkins Sports got their season off to a satisfactory start as they beat Peterborough Football Association Senior Cup Finalists Alconbury 2-0 at Eastfield. Summer signing,Gary Walker opened his account for his new side with a stunning 30 yard strike with Lee Harbour adding a second.

The new management team of Danny Clifton and Seb Hayes will be pleased with their start at the helm of Oundle Town as their new charges won an exciting home tie with Long Sutton Athletic at Station Road by the odd goal in five. Jamie Weston gave Town the lead from the spot and doubled the advantage midway through the first half. The visitors found themselves back on level terms as Matt Stancer kept his cool to convert two penalties. However the management pairing were not to be outdone as a Kelvin Brown goal settled the issue with a late strike. It looks as if it is going to be another long season for Pinchbeck United. The Lincolnshire outfit only retained their Premier Division status after the demise of Emneth Seniors gave the last season's bottom side a reprieve. Their new campaign got off to the worst possible start as they were on the end of an 8-0 demolition at Uppingham Town. Dan Jolly helped himself to a hat-trick for the Rutlanders with Kevin Cliffe (2), Andy Sayers, Michael West and Dillon Oliver also finding the net.

In The First Division Hotpoint Reserves began their campaign in very much the same way as Uppingham as they steamrolled Silver Jubilee 8-2. Ketton grabbed all three points in a narrow 2-1 home victory over Perkins Sports Reserves, however much fancied Crowland Town and Ramsey Town had to be satisfied with a point each as they shared four goals.

PFA Senior Cup winners Ortonians grabbed a last gasp victory in The PFA Jack Hogg Charity Shield at Chestnut Avenue this evening. However they were pushed hard by close rivals Moulton Harrox who almost toppled last season double winners. For long periods the Lincolnshire outfit held they advantage after John Ball had given them a deserved 27th minute lead after a finely constructed move involving new signing Townsend and Ian Locke, whoses elegant lay off was depatched by Ball from 20 yards. However second half pressure from Ortonians finally told as Steve Paling continued his love affair with PFA show pieces as he scored with a stopping header on 72 minutes before grabbing a last minute winner when put clear.Match Report

Monday 8th May 2004

Ortonians completed a league and cup double at London Road on Monday evening as they overcame Premier Division rivals Alconbury 3-2 in an often nervy performance. The newly crowned AMP Peterborough and District Premier Division side began the stronger of the two sides and deserved to take a 7th minute lead as bury's, Mark Randell could only divert a Mark Booth corner kick into his own net. A plunder by Wilkinson in the Alconbury goal allowed Ian Fovargue to double his side's advantage on 19 minutes as the champions looked like they would cruise home. However with the inspirational Luke Elsom prompting from the right wing the underdogs reduced the arrears after 31 minutes when Orton keeper Aaron Bannie made a hash of a Seamus Doyle turn and shot from 18 yards. Ortonians early fluency disappeared as they were forced back for long periods of the second half and substitute Rozairo somehow managed to scuff a shot wide from 5 yards in the final minute after Bannie had made another howler when he dropped an Elsom free kick. However Bury's were too regret this miss as the favourites raced down the other end and a Groves pull back after his surge into the box was thumped home by Ayres. There was still time for Rozairo to reduce the arrears with a close range head, however it was too little to late to prevent a double celebration for Ortonians.

Well done to Ortonians who are crowned champions of The Premier Division after they defeated Hotpoint, whilst closest rivals Moulton Harrox crashed to a 4-1 home defeat to Whittlesey United. Ortonians went into the game needing one win from their two remaining games. This was after Lee Ayres and a last minute goal from Jorge Gomes had given the champions elect a 2-1 win at Emneth Seniors in midweek. It was Gomes who once again took the plaudits with a brace in the championship winning victory. Andrew Bradley and Seth Twigden grabbed the other two goals in match that Ortonians always controlled. Ortonians now go into Monday nights PFA Senior Cup Final with Alconbury with one piece of silverware and who would bet against them completing the double.

Ortonians will be the happier of the two after they were held to a goalless draw at home by title rivals Moulton Harrox at Werrington Sports Centre. It was the second 0-0 draw for the Ortonians following on from their draw at Wimblington Old Boys in midweek. These results mean that Ortonians will clinch the championship with two wins from their three remaining games starting with Wednesday's trip to Emneth Seniors

Chatteris Fen Tigers became the first winners of a Peterborough Football Association Cup this season when they mauled Sutton Bridge Reserves at Chestnut Avenue. Fen Tigers charged into a 6-0 lead after just a hour of a contest which was always going to be one sided after a three goal 15 minute burst against a disjointed Sutton Bridge outfit who seemed to freeze on the big occasion. Wayne Peachey set the wheels on motion for the Fenlanders in the 11th minute with Mark Jones and Ryan Buddle adding further goals before 25 minutes were in the clock. The match was all over as a contest by half time and when Chatteris Fen Tigers scored another three goals within thirteen minutes of the restart through Jones, Peachey and Steve Chapman it was just a question of how many. However to Sutton Bridge United Reserves' credit they did avoid conceding any further goals and also managed two themselves through Paul Wilson to reduce the arrears.

With the final month of the season fast approaching Moulton Harrox kept up their challenge for the Premier Division league title. The Lincolnshire outfit recovered from losing last weekend's PFA Senior Cup Semi-Final to return to the top the table after saw off Long Sutton Athletic 3-0 to maintain their hopes of thwarting favourites Ortonians to the trophy. Ortonians themselves remain five points adrift with three games in hand following their 3-1 home victory over bottom side Pinchbeck United. A result that meant that United will finish the season in last place.

Elsewhere in the top flight PFA Senior Cup finalists, Alconbury continued to be inconsistant as they lost out to a single goal to mid table Oundle Town. Perkins Sports were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Uppingham Town as were Whittlesey United at home to Peterborough Sports. The two Stamford sides Ryhall United and Stamford Belvedere both lost out at home. The latter were beaten 3-1 by Leverington Sports, whilst the former went down 2-0 to Emneth Seniors.

Ortonians reached The PFA Senior Cup final for the second time this season however they were made to work hard before seeing off Moulton Harrox. The AMP Peterborough League title favourites were forced to replay their last four tie after they were found quilty of fielding a player who was not registered corectly in the orginal ties, which they won 3-1 in February. The replay proved to be a much closer affair and was settled when a 40 yard free kick from Ian Forvague drifted into the Harrox goal to send Ortonians to London Road were they will meet Alconbury.

Moulton Harrox stayed at the head of the Premier Division with a vital 2-0 victory at Wimblington Old Boys. It was enough to keep the Lincolnshire outfit a point clear of HOtpoint, who themselves earned an impressive win as they returned from Oundle Town with three points in a 5-3 success. Meanwhile title favourites Ortonians overcame Peterborough Sports in a 1-0 victory as they stay third. Elsewhere Ryhall United inflicted an eighth league defeat on Perkins Sports. This allowed Leverington Sports a place in the top six as they won 2-0 at bottom side Pinchbeck United. Uppingham Town earned all three points in a routine 3-0 away victory at Stamford Belvedere, whilst PFA Senior Cup Finalists, Alconbury returned to winning ways in some style beating Whittlesey United 4-1.

In Division One Silver Jubilee kept up their promotion bid as they beat fellow promotion hopefuls, Crowland Town by the only goal of the game. However Parson Drove remained top after they defeat Deeping Rangers 'A' 2-0. Ramsey Town meanwhile lost further ground in their attempt for a top three finish as they were held 3-3 at relegation threatened Ketton.

Saturday 13th March 2004

The fall out following the recent cold snap and subsequent heavy rain had an effect on the Peterborough fixture list. Three games were postponed in The Premier Division. The local derby between Ryhall United and Stamford Belvedere was victim as was Ortonians tricky looking visit to Emneth Seniors with Uppingham Town's home fixture with Oundle Town completing the trio of postponements. PFA Senior Cup finalists, Alconbury were unable to celebrate reaching the London Road final as they were brought back down to earth as Peterborough Sports grabbed all three points with the only goal of the game. Hotpoint missed out on the chance to draw level with inactive leaders Moulton Harrox as they were held 1-1 at home by mid table Wimblington Old Boys. Perkins Sports moved into the top five with a resounding 4-1 victory at bottom side Pinchbeck United, whilst next to bottom Long Sutton Athletic went down by the odd goal in three at Leverington Sports.

In Division One Crowland Town returned to the top of the table following their 4-0 win at Manea United, a result that also saw the home side relegated. Parson Drove 92 maintained their championship hopes with a 5-1 win over Hotpoint Reserves, whilst both Kings Cliffe United and Silver Jubilee saw their matches postponed.Deeping Rangers 'A' joined the top five after they saw off Gedney Hill at Outgang Road, winning the tie 4-2. Meanwhile Ramsey Town's promotion hopes were serverely dented as they went down by the same score at Moulton Harrox Reserves. It's looking very promising for both Hereward Old Boys and Ortonians Reserves in Division Two. The former continued to lead the table after a hard fought 3-1 success at Werrington Town kept them above the latter who had a routine 5-1 win over fading Langtoft United, who now trail the top two by seven points.

Saturday 6th March 2004

Uppingham Town's brave attempt to reach the PFA Senior Cup Final at the first time of asking was thwarted by Alconbury's strike pair of Steve Putland and Luke Elsom. The pairing finally saw off the Rutlanders and helped their side to a deserved 4-1 victory at Tod's Piece this afternoon. The visitors began the game with most of the possession and could have took the lead on six minutes when Matt Radwell fired a well timed volley from the edge of the 18 yard box. However the home keeper was did just enough to deny the midfielder. Ten minutes later and Jason Bohonis fired another snap shot towards goal and much to the surprise of the Alconbury fans the ball flashed wide. Bohonis was not to be denied and after some excellent work down the Uppingham left by substitute Anthony Raziaro and a good advantage by the referee Bohonis was on hand to fire home the resultant cross on the half hour mark. The home side began the second half well as they took the game to Alconbury. However just as it looked as if the home strikers Jolly and Hall were getting on top their hopes were rocked as Luke Elsom bundled home another Raziaro cross to double his side lead on 55. It looked over a contest, however the referee, Ivan Ward gave the home side a lifeline when he correctly spotted a handball by Bohonis and Dylan Oliver reduced the arrears from 12 yards as he sent the keeper the wrong way. For a few minutes Uppingham threatened to pull the game out of the fire. But with 72 minutes on the clock they were caught napping and with the defence pleading in vain for an offside flag, Steve Putland raced clear to restore burys two goal lead. This knocked the fight out of Town and salt was rubbed into their wounds in the final minute when Elsom's cross found Putland unmarked to head home a fourth and send Alconbury into the final.

Ortonians reached PFA Senior Cup Final for the first time sice they won it back in 1996. They did so after they overcame Moulton Harrox, the club they defeated eight years ago with a 3-1 home victory. A bitterly cold wind made first half conditions difficult. Harrox had more of the possession, however the city based side had better chances and after 20 minutes a defence splitting ball from Phil Groves turned defence into attack and caught Moulton napping and Kevin Randle opened the scoring. Fifteen minutes later and Ortonians advantage was doubled as some dreadful defending at a corner allowed an unmarked Jon Patten to head home practically on the goal line. The vistors did rally and following a goalmouth scramble Ian Locke reduced the arrears. The two sides traded blow thereafter however time running out Moulton piled everybody forward however in time added on they were found wanting as Ortonians intercepted a short corner and and Glen Bolden played it forward for Kevin Randle to ran from the halfway line to chip it over the Harrox keeper Savidge to settle the issue and send Ortonians into the London Road final on Monday 10th May kick off 7.30pm. There they will meet the winners of next weekends other Semi-Final tie between Alconbury and Uppingham Town. Both sides warmed up for their clash with good results in the lastest round of Premier Division matches. The former will be pleased with a thumping 6-0 demolition of Stamford Belvedere, whilst the latter will be more than satisfied after returning from Whittlesey United with a point following a 2-2 draw.

Hotpoint continued their resurgent form under the guidance of new boss, Mark Speechley. Spec was disappointed with his new chargers first half showing at fading Peterborough Sports, however was thankful that no damage was done as the two sides turned around at the break level at 0-0. The second half performance obviously demostrated the managers determination to keep pressure on the title favourites Ortonians as the vistors scored four times after the break. Graham Morris (2), Stuart Eason and Johnson grabbed the goals as Hotpoint eventually ran out 4-1 winners. Elsewhere Oundle Town registered a 7-1 home victory over Long Sutton Athletic with Perkins Sports settling for a point in a 1-1 draw at Emneth Seniors.

Back to the PFA Cups and Thorney reached PFA Junior Cup Final as they finally shook off Netherton United winning their replayed semi-final 1-0. Thorney will now meet Eye Sports and Social in the decider. Meanwhile congratulations go to Chatteris Fen Tigers and Sutton Bridge United Reserves who will face each other in The Minor Cup Final after wins against Wimblington Old Boys (1-0) and Alconbury "A" (3-2) respectively....................

Saturday 14th February 2004

PFA Challenge Cup holders, Deeping Rangers "A" failed to reach the final as they were knocked out at the semi-final stage in a thriller at Kings Cliffe United. In a tie that got the go ahead following a 12.45pm pitch inspection the home side took the lead inside the first five minutes through Mark Wyer, only for the visitors to deservedly restore parity after 12 minutes. The pattern of play very much saw the holders take the game to their hosts, who are presently involved in a championship battle at the top of Division One. So it did not come as too much of a surprise when the impressive David Jones was allowed space to turn in the box and put Rangers in front. The visitors could and should have increased their advantage, however some fine goalkeeping by the home custodian meant that Richard Brighty's tap in just before half time ensured level pegging at the break. The second half began in the same vein with Rangers doing most of the pressing. Once again they could not get passed the home keeper who thwarted Jones on two occasions with two superb saves. John Corcoran then take full advantage of his colleagues excellance when he restored Cliffe's advantage somewhat against the run of play. Still Deeping piled on the pressure and David Jones finally beat the home keeper with a low shot that just crossed the line.

It seemed at the this point that the holders were going to ease through to the final, however with 15 minutes left Cliffe broke away again and Mark Tilley raced clear to beat Tarrant in the visitors goal to wrap up victory.Cliffe will now play Second Division Ortonians Reserves, who defeated favourites Silver Jubilee 1-0 in the other tie. The final will take place at Chestnut Avenue on Friday 30th April 2004 with a 6.15pm kick off.

Saturday 31st January 2004

Only four games survived the aftermath of the snowy conditions that dominated the area this week. Moulton Harrox returned to the top of the Premier Division as they won the only top flight game to get the go ahead winning 2-0 at home to Ryhall United. One First Division also survived as Hereward Old Boys cemented their promotion hopes with an odd goal in seven victory at home to Whittlesey United Reserves. Finally two Third Division games got the green light and they both involved March sides. St Marys crashed to a 6-0 home defeat to local rivals Doddington United, whilst March Town United Reserves faired better at they returned from Sutton Bridge United with all three points after a 3-1 victory.

Saturday 24th January 2004

It was Long Sutton Athletic's turn to take the plaudits in The Premier Division this weekend as they appeared to recover form their dreadful start to 2004. Following hard on the heels of the club house fire the season went further downhill with a 10-1 thrashing at the hands of league leaders, Ortonians last weekend. The humulating reverse saw boss Robert Oldham quit as manager. Oldham blamed the attitude of his players who laid down and died agaianst Ortonians only to perform wonders in a Sunday League match the following day. Oldham told The Peterborough Evening Telegaraph: "After what happened last Saturday and the way those players then played on the Sunday I decided I can do without it."I was fed up with the players being half-hearted one day then up for it the next. It persuaded me it was time to let someone else have a go. I just didn't think I could do anymore with the team. They were not responding." Sutton quickly announced Oldham's replacement with club vice-chairman and reserve team manager Pete Radeloff taking the helm until the end of the season. He seemed to inpsire his chargers as they responsed with a 1-0 win at Wimblington Old Boys Shaun Bunn, scored the only goal of the game as the home side had John Thurston sent off after 20 minutes for swearing.

This postive result for Athletic meant that Pinchbeck United who lost 4-0 at home to Peterborough Sports are once again five points adrift at the foot of the table. Sports who managed to successfully appeal to The FA for the reinstatement of points deducted by the league celebrated with a routine victory. Lee Ibbott, John Rhodes, Ben Lawrence and Andrew Hewitt were on target for Sports. Sports now find themselves level on points with Moulton Harrox who convincingly won 3-0 at Perkins Sports. Mind you the Lincolnshire side had the weather to thank for a late appearance of Holbeach United striker, Omar Joof. Joof who left to sign for The Carters Park outfit earlier in the season is still eligible to play for Moulton and he grabbed a brace in his side's victory as he joined th action as a substitute. Nigel Steadman scored in the final minute to add a flatering finish to the scoreline as the home side hit the woodwork twice during the game. Meanwhile Ortonians kept their noses just in front following a 20 minute hat-trick from Kevin Randle in his sides 5-2 success over Leverington Sports. It completed a turnaround for the league leaders after Paul Bryan and Brendan Bird had given the visitors a 2-1 lead. Andrew Bradley had earlier equalised from the spot. However Randle led the way back with his quickfire treble with Glenn Bolden also on target during frantic 20 minute spell for the league leaders.

Elsewhere in the top flight Tim Hudson saved a Billy Dunn spot-kick to help Whittlesey to a 1-0 win at Ryhall. Leigh Gale won the game for the visitors with the only goal of the game as Whittlesey went fifth. Hotpoint continued their good form under new manager, Mark Speechley. However they had a last minute own goal to thank for gaining all three points in a 2-1 win at Stamford Belvedere. Mark Knighton sliced clearance looped up over Shaun Greetham to gift Hotpoint victory after Robert Imlah looked to earned a deserved point for Bels after he cancelled out Graham Morris's strike for Hotpoint. Finally Uppingham were left ruing two disallowed goals as they had to settle for a 2-2 draw at Oundle. Dan Jolley had two first-half efforts ruled out and the home side soon took the lead through an Alec Dalton's free-kick. However Dillon Oliver struck twice in as many minutes at the start of the second half to put the visitors on top only for a late Dwayne Rankin to restore parity.

Saturday 17th January 2004

Congratulations to Pinchbeck United as they secured their first Premier Division victory of the season. Their 2-1 home victory over Oundle Town rekindled their hopes of avoiding relegation as well as putting a large dent in the visitors hopes of rejoining the title race. The win put them within two points of next to bottom Long Sutton Athletic whose new year continued to go from worse to worse. Last week saw their clubhouse destroyed in a fire and this week they were on the end of 10-1 hammering by leaders Ortonians. Moulton Harrox remained a point behind after a single Steve Sinfield goal settled a nervy encounter with Alconbury. More news from Moulton is that Deeping Rangers have put in a seven day approach for the prolific Matthew Kent who has been in excellent form just recently.

Elsewhere in the top flight Emneth Seniors home form has completely crumbled. Peterborough Sports were the lastest side to plunder three points with a 2-1 victory. Hotpoint returned to winning ways with a single goal home success over Stamford Belvedere, whilst Whittlesey United completed a league double over Wimblington Old Boys as they run out 3-2 victors. Meanwhile Perkins Sports had to settle for a point from their long trip to PFA Senior Cup Semi-Finalists, Uppingham Town as the two side fought out 1-1 draw.

Saturday 10th January 2004

Moulton Harrox were knock from the top of the Premier Division after being held to a high scoring draw at Leverington Sports. The leaders had a last-gasp Matt Kent equaliser to thanks as the Lincolnshire side grabbed a 4-4 draw to remain top of the pile. Kent had earlier scored his first of the game after only five minutes and Harrox looked well on their way to victory a Lee Day own goal doubled the advantage on 22 minutes. However Leverington debutant and former Long Sutton star Danny Foulsham opened his account for his new club before the break and then won a penalty which Tony Moore converted to level the scores. Moulton found themselves back in front through Mark Johnson, only for Foulsham to square things up again. In a topsy turvy game player-manager Wayne Garner stepped off the bench to put Leverington in front for the first time and it looked to have set up a shock victory. However Kent had other ideas and his late late show meant that both sides had to settle for point.

Ortonians took full advantage of this result as they regained top spot follow an impressive 4-0 success at fellow challengers, Hotpoint. The influential Ian Fovargue grabbed a brace with Lee Ayres and Lee D'Arcy as this result ended a poor run of results for the leaders. Meanwhile Alconbury continue to remain in the title race. However they were made to work hard by an improving Ryhall United side. United who held Ortonians to a 3-3 draw last week pushed the A1 side all the way before Matthew Radwell and Jason Bohinas saw win out by the odd goal in three to move to within three points of the lead.

Peterborough Sports may have given Perkins Sports some hope of a way back into the championship race as they were beaten 4-1 at PSL. The pre season favourites, Perkins, who were written off by their own manager Gino Agius saw Tony Timbrell (2), Ryan Francis and Dean Clarke on target as they followed up last weekend win at Whittlesey United to move back into the top six only six points adrift of top spot. Pat Dooner replied for Peterborough Sports. Elsewhere bounced back from the Perkins reverse with a fine 6-3 victory at Wimblington Old Boys. A result that all but ended The Old Boys title challenge. Meanwhile Uppingham Town appeared to have secured another season in the top flight as they won 3-1 at Emneth, whilst Stamford Belvedere saw off Pinchbeck United 2-0 thanks to goals from James Strickley and David Norris.

Finally struggling Long Sutton have vowed to continue following a fire that has destroyed their clubhouse. The Lincolnshire club's facilities were broken into and then set alight in the early hours of Tuesday morning. The destruction caused by the fire left the inside of club completely gutted and without electricity and water which in turn forced them to postpone Saturday's reserve team game with Doddington and switch next week's clash with Ortonians to an away game. But secretary Jenny Sutton was adamant that Long Sutton will see out the season before setting about the task of rebuilding the club in the summer. She told The Peterborough Evening Telegraph: "It was a quite nasty thing to do and a disheartening sight."It was definitely arson as there are signs of the building being broken into and the pay phone and CD radio were stolen before they torched the place."We are now left to pick up the pieces. We have to wait until the structural people have assessed the situation before we know the full extent of the damage. "We have a strong enough committee and people at the club to battle on. We will keep going. Everything will be restored once the insurance is sorted out and by next season everything will be up and running again."In the meantime Long Sutton have been offered the use of the facilities at the neighbouring cricket ground.
