A Reflection of Red
21.75" x 15.75"
Her still life paintings are inspired by bright colours, simple and complex fabric patterns and the bold shadow shapes produced by lighting the object with a strong light source. Among the many objects that she collects are metal and glass vases and bowls that provide the interesting reflections that she enjoys painting. Although she arranges the various elements such as fruit and flowers, many of which are, in scale, larger than life, in a shallow space, so as to create a strong abstract pattern, the resulting image is representational. Especially in her floral paintings, she often moves in close to the subject and by using a string pattern of light and shadow depicts individual petals to give an almost abstract appearance despite the realistic portrayal of the flower.

Her paintings of city buildings, although representational, are inspired by the abstract shapes of shadows on the buildings as well as those shapes created by the reflections of metal and refracted light in windows.
