Girlguiding Farnborough

As our new name suggests, guiding is being led by the girls!
In the Farnborough Division, we currently have 5 Rainbow units,
13 Brownie packs and 6 Guide companies.

The Rainbows, for 5 - 7 year-olds, meet for one hour each week for
fun with crafts, games and other activities designed to teach the
girls co-operation and teamwork and respect for themselves and
others.

Brownie meetings are generally 1½ hours a week, in various locations
such as school and church halls across Farnborough and Cove.
Through games and activities, the girls (aged between 7 and 10)
continue to develop as individuals and at the pack 'pow-wows' are
encouraged to take some responsibility for planning their own
programmes of games, singing, crafts and working toward badges.
Many units visit attractions such as Legoland, Chessington and
Thorpe Park.

The Guide programme is decided largely by the girls themselves as
they work in groups toward challenges which call for teamwork,
responsibility, and co-operation. They cover a wide variety of
interests from party-planning, DJ-ing and chocolate eating to
keeping fit and football. The more traditional aspects of Guiding are
also catered for; five of the units are camping this year, and
one is also spending a week on a canal long-boat.

There are meetings for 14 - 26 year-olds who also have the
chance to help at the meetings for younger girls and to receive
training in leadership skills and further their own interests, including
the possibility of overseas travel as part of the world-wide
Guide movement.

In Farnborough we have an active Trefoil Guild for all
interested adults. They meet monthly and have a very wide
programme of outings and activities as well as being a great support
to unit leaders both financially and practically.
