REBECCA LOUISE WILLIAMS, 19 YEARS OLD

DISTRICT/COUNTY WHERE YOU LIVE: Gilfach Goch

HOW DID YOU START OFF JUNIOR HANDLING?

Showing has been in the family throughout many years passing down through three generations so far...these being my grandparents, my parents and now my sister and I. I first took part in show handling at the age of four within the breed ring and then when old enough in the Junior Handling.

DO YOU TAKE PART IN ANY OTHER DOGGY ACTIVITIES (OBEDIENCE, AGILITY, FLYBALL, ETC)?

I have had a go at these activities but do not take part in them regularly as I prefer to show handle.

HOW MANY DOGS DO YOU LIVE WITH, OWN AND/OR SHOW?

I currently live with twelve dogs in total. Two Tibetan Terriers, two Welsh Terriers, three Welsh Springer’s, two German Spitz and also three Golden Retrievers.

WHICH ONES DO YOU USE FOR JUNIOR HANDLING AND WHY?

I have not used my own dogs for the handling for a while as I always found it enjoyable to show various different breeds. However, for the past few years I have been showing Hungarian Pulis that I also show within the breed.

WHAT BREEDS HAVE YOU SHOWN BEFORE IN COMPETITION?

As mentioned above I have shown many different breeds throughout my time in the handling. Some of these include Retrievers, Boxers, Pulis, German Spitz and Tibetan Spaniels.

TELL US ABOUT HOW TO HANDLE (SHOWING STYLE) YOUR BREED IN JUNIOR HANDLING CLASSES?

When showing my Pulis I stack them square and stand behind them as I believe this makes them look better. When moving I move them out on a loose lead as they move better like this.

WHAT DO YOU NORMALLY WEAR IN COMPETITION?

After spending my summers in America I now wear skirt suits when showing as I believe that they look smart and presentable.

WHAT ARE YOUR BEST ACHIEVEMENTS?

I won my Richmond Semi Finals in 2006, Runner up handler of the year 2005 and I have also spent the summers of 2006 and 2007 in America with a Professional handler were I showed in both the juniors and the breed.

WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR MOST MEMORABLE OCCASION SO FAR? I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at the Pedigree Junior Handling Finals were again I showed my 12 year old Hungarian Puli. This also being my last class in the handling

IF YOU ONLY HAD ONE 'TOP TIP' TO SHARE, WHAT WOULD IT BE?

Never go in between the dog and the Judge.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE THING ABOUT JUNIOR HANDLING?

Meeting all the friends that I have made over the years, the shows would be nothing without friends.

WHAT DISAPPOINTS YOU IN THE WORLD OF JUNIOR HANDLING?

When you enter a ring to be judged on your handling and find that you’re being judged on your dog.

IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE YOU WANT TO BRING UP?

Just enjoy the experience because before you know it you’ll be too old and if you’re anything like me you’ll miss it once it’s gone!!!
