If you have a garden - even a small one - composting is a good way to dispose of fruit and vegetable peelings, lawn cuttings, etc

All household waste that goes to landfill MUST be put into your wheelie (unless you have received a visit from a council officer who has agreed to exempt you and provided lilac refuse sacks instead of a wheelie). There are three sizes of wheelie - 240 litre, height 106 cm, width 57 cm, depth 72 cm - capacity up to 5 black bags) All three sizes are roughly the same
height. 180 litre - height 106 cm, width 48 cm, depth 74 cm - capacity up to 4 bags 140 litre - height 105 cm, width 48 cm, depth 56 cm - capacity up to 3 bags If you wish to change your wheelie for a different size, contact recycling@oxford.gov.uk, text 07786 200 440 or phone (01865) 252 900.

BLUE wheelies
Too much plastic, cans and cardboard to fit into your blue box?
You can either get a second blue box free of charge or buy a blue wheelie
from the Council at a cost of £29.26, if you pick it up from City Works
(off the Cowley Road) or £34.25 inclusive of delivery.
The blue wheelie is ONLY to be used for
materials for recycling that would otherwise go into the blue box, and can
only be put out for emptying in a blue box week.
E-mail
recycling@oxford.gov.uk, phone (01865) 252 900 or text
07786 200 440 to request a blue wheelie or an additional blue box.
However, if you only put out a small amount of household waste but have a lot of plastic/cans/cardboard to dispose of, you can't get a blue wheelie free of charge instead of a green wheelie (and get the special lilac plastic bags for your household waste). Only properties deemed unsuitable for a wheelie, or people who are unable to manage moving a wheelie, are allowed to use these special household waste plastic bags.
