Large electrical items - fridges, freezers, washing machines, tumble driers, cookers
If the electrical items you
wish to dispose of are still functioning / usable, it's worth seeing if anybody
wants them first by posting them on
Freecycle
or offering
them to
Emmaus Oxford,
an organisation that will collect re-useable furniture, electrical (but not
gas) appliances and other household items for re-distribution to people who
are struggling.
If you feel your bulky items really are rubbish and of no use to anyone, contact Oxford City Council's Recycling Team - they are responsible for the collection of bulky items - furniture, fridges, etc. The council will collect THREE items in total at any one time, free of charge, on two occasions over 12 months.
Collection will be ANYTIME within 10 WORKING days from the time your request is logged into their system.
During this period, you will need to have the items in a convenient spot, visible and easily accessible within the perimeter of your property, ready for collection at any time.
If you wish to keep them in a garage prior to collection, you should indicate this when arranging for collection, so that the collection team will know where to find them. And if you want to keep the garage locked, you should indicate when arranging for collection that the team will need to call at the house to gain access - and, of course, ensure that during the 10-working-day period, someone is always at home to unlock the garage.
To arrange collection, e-mail recycling@oxford.gov.uk or phone (01865) 252 900 or text 07786 200 440
