Future plans

There are plans for a second stage of change -  a new 'streamlined three-bin system', which is intended to make recycling simpler and encourage more recycling, in a cost-effective manner.  Basically:

●  To encourage more recycling, any household that did not already have a BLUE wheelie would be given one, free of charge.
Everything you currently put either into your blue box/blue wheelie or green box would go into the blue wheelie.

●  Green wheelies would still be used for non-recyclables but the hope is that many people would exchange their present green wheelie for a smaller one (free of charge) and recycle more.  It used to cost £5 to swap your wheelie bin for a different size but this charge has already been abolished.  Contact City Works on 01865 252900 to organise a FREE swap.

●  Green bags would still be used for garden waste, with a possibility of introducing brown wheelies for garden waste sometime in the future.

Plans for food waste collections have been shelved, at least for the moment, because of financial constraints.
Although Chipping Norton-based composting firm Agrivert has announced that it has signed a 15-year contract with Oxfordshire county council to process the county's food and green waste plans for collecting food waste within the city itself have been put on hold due to financial constraints.  Oxfordshire County Council has said that, as district councils (of which Oxford City Council is one) are responsible for collecting the waste, it is up to them to decide individually when their collections should begin (for further information go to http://tinyurl.com/dmtxsl )
