RH Transport Services The 700 is a service that can be used by anybody and can be a quick way to get to Summertown shops. Oxford City Council free travel bus passes can be used on it. You can board it at the stop on the John Radcliffe Hospital approach road, opposite the West Wing entrance. There's a 700 every 15 mins until the early evening, Monday to Friday only - check the timetable via the link above.
For the return journey from Summertown to a JR stop, you can board it at the Summertown South Parade or the Ferry Pool Road stop on Marston Ferry Road (note that there is no equivalent stop near Ferry Pool Road on the way TO Summertown).
Oxford Bus Company This company now also runs the Brookes Bus service (instead of Stagecoach - changed in July 2009)
The public can use all Brookes buses. They stop at the ordinary bus
stops and Oxford City Council free bus
passes are accepted on them.
However, you need to
check the timetables to see what part of the day the service you wish to
use covers. Timetables are different during vacation periods.
U5 (Brookes Bus) Marston - Brookes - Cowley - City Centre
NB: the U5 does NOT go directly into town from the Jack Straw's Lane stop. It's useful if you want to go to the Cowley Centre (get off at The Original Swan pub, just after the bus turns right at the bottom of Hollow Way).
From Jack Straw's Lane the U5 proceeds along the Marston Road, up Headington Hill, down Gipsy Lane, Old Road, The Slade, Hollow Way, then via Cowley Road and The Plain to the City Centre (Queens Lane stop J2 in the High Street and Carfax) and then to Speedwell Street. It then retraces its journey back via the Cowley Road, The Slade, Old Road, etc to Marston. To get this bus back from Cowley to Jack Straw's Lane, go to the stop opposite The Original Swan.
Coaches to London:

It's worth visiting the London Underground website and checking the availability of trains before planning your journey, particularly if you are travelling on Saturdays or Sundays, when engineering work is carried out and some of the tube lines are closed or partially closed.
