Paint
Recent changes in legislation have made it more expensive for local
authorities to dispose of waste paint. In order to avoid these
increased costs many councils are now refusing to accept most waste
paint at household waste recycling centres and tips.
Oxfordshire County Council (responsible for management of Redbridge
Refuse & Recycling Centre) gives the following advice:
« If your waste
paint is still useable, you can take it to the Orinoco
store in Peat Moors (off The Slade), Headington - for details of
opening times and how to get there, click
here.
The
Community RePaint
project prevents usable paint being thrown away.
«
If your waste
paint
isn't usable, or
there's only a very small amount left in the tin,
add sawdust or sand to it and leave the lid off until the paint
becomes solid and dry. It can then be disposed of with
household waste in your wheelie. However, paint forms a skin,
so check by piercing the skin that all the paint has solidified
before disposing of it this way.
«
METAL
paint tins
that are EMPTY and DRY
can go into the scrap metal container at Redbridge.
Hazardous Waste
You should not add any
hazardous waste (eg paint brush cleaner) to your household rubbish, pour it down the drain or
dispose of it on your property.
The following can be disposed of at Redbridge:
Asbestos
(there are special directions for this, click
here)
Batteries (including car batteries)
Engine oil and engine filters
Fluorescent tubs and low-energy-consumption bulbs
Household and garden chemicals
Please ring
the County Council on 08450 50 45 50 if you have any
enquiries regarding rubbish that could be classified as hazardous or
if you would like to arrange a hazardous waste collection from
your house. Please make a list of each item including its
description, and the description and size of the container.
