The BEANO

Story

 This page was last updated08/09/2004

Like all good stories  this has a  beginning , a middle and an end , a happy end so perhaps it is a fairy tale. Well it all began on the 17/08/00 with this first email to UK yowie talk and the rest of the story is told by extracts of emails from various of our members……so
" once  upon a time……."

17/08/00 Dear All,
As I buy the BEANO every week for my children, I thought you would like know that there will be a FREE UK Yowie Series 2 with next weeks issue, due out on Thursday 24th August ( some newsagents have them out on the Wednesday) .As the Beano only cost 52p it is a bargain!!          Bye  Anne.                    p.s. not that I read the Beano you understand

Thanks Anne for this tip, I'm off down the newsagents to reserve  BEANO! My kids are too young yet to read it....but its been along  time since I have so I expect I will enjoy every bit of it while I  nibble on my chocolate Yowie!    J Coombs YOWWER)

I had a quick sneak at a BEANO today to look at the advert and I noticed that it pictured two animals which have not been released yet. What looked like the leopard and the hornbill I think. Thank you for the tip Anne I will be ordering a copy or two as well.                            Sarah

19/08/00 Hi All  Just a thought, but I have this picture in my mind of the publishers of the "BEANO" pulling their hair out in a few weeks time, and wondering why the sales of their comic have slumped after massive sales on the previous issue.........LOL
If like me you have dashed of to your friendly newsagent after receiving news of the impending free Yowie with the next issue and ordered 20 copies of the "BEANO", and also plan to hit the comic shelves in W H SMITH, then I would imagine their sales will go through the roof.
But hang on there could be a silver lining to all this, the publishers might just decided to run another free Yowie offer and at 52p a issue it's a cheaper way of buying "Yowies" without getting a mountain of chocolate Ah well one can dream.         Paul
20/08/00 What happens if all of the "free" yowies are the same one? Just a thought…  Regards, Jackie...Melbourne, Australia
1st I check for variations                              2nd I send them all to you ..............LOL
No only joking, but here's a question does the comic become a Yowie collectable if the Yowies attached ?           Regards
Paul
22/08/00 Hi all , just to all let you know the BEANO is out and Cadbury's have made it easier to collect the yowies by not putting them in there capsules so you can choose which animals you want.  As you can see the 26 not yet released yowies are among the offer so get down to your shopping centre's and get buying lots of Beano's.                       Karen
What a gift - I couldn't believe that you can actually see the Yowies before you buy. I've just done a quick trawl of Crewe's newsagents How has everyone else got on?                     Shirley
In the backwaters of Spalding the Beano doesn't come out until Wednesday and Smith's say Thursday - can't wait, but I'll have to!                 Rosalind
Hi everyone a successful day in Slough for Beanos and series 2 yowies  not only several new animals but Series 2 Crag, Ditty and Boof also purchased. Happy hunting Everyone                Theresa
23/08/00 Hey not fair-why can't Cadbury do something nice like that for us Aussie collectors! To be able to CHOOSE your yowies....................                Christine (Australia)
I bought 16 copies of the Beano today  I thought that was a pretty good haul for half an hour (and a few funny looks) round the shops. Kirsten is now my best friend! :)                            Emma
Hi All, went to see about the BEANO magazine. here in Ireland and I am happy to report that I am the proud owner of 13 series 2 UK Yowies. ( is this maybe the only way to get them here at the moment? )  and last, I would love to be able to go to England for such a meeting if I can.                            Regards, Nicky
I went out looking around for the series 2 UK yowies and |saw some Beano's and couldn't resist the temptation. I am a proud owner of 40 UK series 2 yowies, and Beano magazines ;-))).
You bet ye I am very happy. Cadbury choc. yowies have arrived as well. But don't want to eat to much chocolate anymore so the Beano's are a great answer.
   Nicky
24/08/00 Hi All,  Yes the BEANO hunt went very well, but having pre ordered a few from my newsagent well actually 24 in the end. Those that I collected from him I had no choice in so I did end up with quite a few of the first 24 as well as the next 26. Did pick a few others up round the supermarket and ended the day with 14 new ones from the last 26.
Back on the Beano hunt tomorrow.                 Regards Paul
Ok Ok you guys we are drooling hear in Australia there has been nothing like this hear as yet ,I think it is great you can see what you need .                          Russell M
I would like to say a big thank you to Anne for letting us all know about Beano promotion. I have had a lot of fun scouring the shops and will be out again today, dragging my four year old behind.
From the sounds of it has been a successful time for a lot of people. I certainly would never of known about it had Anne not posted a message.     Bye for now.
 Sarah.
Thank you.    My pleasure, as I get the BEANO every week anyway, I thought it only fair  to let everyone know. The range of free Yowies are better than I had hoped for. I did well too with 18 new Yowies and a Boof    My children want to know what I am going to do the all the Beano's? I will be looking again today.                     Happy hunting, Anne
After reading Sarah's thank you to Anne, I must say I felt very guilty. In all the excitement I, and I guess a lot of us lost site of the fact that without Anne's posting none of us would have had the fun and joy of the BEANO hunt. Just like being a child again, or as Sam said like going to bed on Christmas Eve and not being able to sleep because of all the thoughts of what you will find under the tree in the morning.    So Anne my humble apologies for not thinking of it sooner but,
THANK YOU YOUR A STAR.                                Regards Paul
I agree, this posting was a great introduction to the BEANO giveaway and I would like to say thanks to Anne as well because I certainly would not have known about it as my kids are too young for    BEANO...and I am too old!                            J Coombs
24/08/00 Thanks Anne for telling us about the Beanos. We're doing a bit of recycling here.......We're giving 15 of our 16 Beano's to the children's ward in Epsom Hospital - better than chucking them away :) My younger daughter spends a lot of time in there and they are always grateful for the toys but they are always after reading material for the kids, so I thought this would be a great idea of getting rid of our unwanted stock. (also good way of avoiding hubby's wrath 'it's for the sick children' *LOL*) Just an idea for disposing of any unwanted copies - how about passing them on to local children's hospital ward.                               Emma
Can I add my thanks Anne. We are all very grateful for you being kind enough to share that information with us.   Cheers                      Shirley
HI ALL!   Well, looks like the BEANO promotion has definitely made up for the hard work in completing Series 1 original and b mould collection (which mine is still not entirely complete!) and I have managed to get my hands on lots of series 2, phew! I am on another BEANO hunt tomorrow!: Have a great day everyone!                       J.Coombs (yowwer)
Hi everyone, First let me say a big thank you to Anne for letting us know about the Beano's. And I think it's a great idea about the hospital I am going there later on to give them my Beano's.                             Nicky
Hi Anne I too wish to add my thanks to you for telling us all about the BEANO giveaway                      Regards Maggi
Hi Emma   Thanks for the suggestion, I will be taking copies up to our local children's ward later today           Regards Maggi
Hi again,  Just out of interest has any one got the numbers 83 to 90 inc of the last 26 released? I just wondered if Cadbury's released only 18 of the 26, on the Beanos?    Thanks.                        Sarah
Just reporting on the 'missing eight'. No sign of those one's in our part of the country. I've been hunting for 3 hours this afternoon while hubby babysat. Does look a bit like they held back on those few. Typical !!!! Just making sure we don't stop buying Yowies for a while - as if!! But hasn't this week been fun. Best Wishes                            Shirley
I also need those numbers - but I did get a Squish on the Beano's - which was cool !                    Zarah
Here in Ireland we couldn't find any between the nos. 83 and 90. Boof and Ditty were not available.                Nicky
Hi everyone      Can I just add my heartfelt and deepest thanks to Anne re. BEANO.   I've had a great time hunting them down, however I haven't seen any of the missing eight either and I've had a lot of cynical thoughts about Cadburys!!!!!               Cath
Hi Sarah and all  I too have only got 18 out of the 26 and I too am missing nos 83-90 incl.                      Regards Maggi
I was just looking at the series 2 animals, they are a lovely collection aren't they.                      Shirley
Dear Anne  Many thanks for sharing your BEANO news with us all. Without you all our UK collections would still be within the first 24.                                          Sam
Yes I agree the new yowies are lovely and so much bigger, I wondered if they would fit in their capsules.                Dela
Hi Anne   I know you must be enjoying this moment of fame. once again  thank you for informing us all about the Beano's offer, but mostly thank you for saving my waistline from expanding. What we need now are tips on what to do with all the comics. I
think they would make ideal wrapping paper for pressies and background for picture frames, especially for boys.
   Dela
25/08/00 It would appear that some of you have been very successful with the BEANO Yowie hunt getting 18 of the 26 from the second release. My day 2 hunt was not as successful as day 1 finding mainly Yowies from the first 24 remaining on the shelves. My Newsagent actually made a phone call to order more from the wholesalers only to be told that this issue of the BEANO had completely sold out                               Regards Paul
I am so pleased we all got so many new Yowies, it makes collecting much more fun. My children are both members of the BEANO club and are as mad about the Bash street kids as we are about Yowies.( Keeping the comic for wrapping paper is good idea) .My favorite of them all so far is the Leopard.                          Didn't we do well!              Anne.
Hi Anne,  It certainly is thanks to you that a lot of people saved money and got a lot further on with their series 2 yowie collection.                              Best Wishes Rosalind
Thanks  for telling us about the BEANO and a great big thank you for letting us know it was sometimes on the shelf  on Wednesday. We managed to find lots on Wednesday with the promise of more magazines on the shelf  Thursday.  Everyone decided to sleep late so we didn't get out to look until the afternoon. The shops were totally sold out                Helen
Hello everyone, I wrote to the BEANO, via their website, and this is their reply. I wrote yesterday evening, a shame they have no more plans at the moment, but isn't the turnaround time good. Bye for now.                          Sarah Yowie
Dear Sarah
Further to your e-mail regarding the Yowie animals which were free with  BEANO comic. We were very happy to learn that you were pleased with this giveaway however we have no immediate plans for a repeat Yowie animals promotion at this time
Once again thank you for your interest. Regards                        Susan Pullar
                                                                                                 Promotions Department
Hi All,   If only Cadbury's & The Big Picture could be so efficient.     Sorry I'm dreaming again ...LOL           Regards Paul
"And everyone lived happily ever after," well nearly, all now busy arranging swaps and hoping the  last 8 of series 2 arrive in capsules very soon……………………………

And Paul had to have the last word……………...
