Thanks for dropping by. This page is deliberately unfancy, so almost any browser should be able to cope with it. Do come back and check progress.
As for me, I'm a 49 year old Anglican (Church of England) minister, and Team Rector of the Heatons Team Ministry. This sounds rather grand, but in fact I'm basically in charge of St. John the Baptist, Heaton Mersey . My colleagues look after the four other churches in the team, which appropriately enough came into being on 1st April 2002.
I'm interested in New Testament studies, and occasionally actually read about it. I used to contribute to the Bible Reading Fellowship's New Daylight series of daily notes. I don't any more, so I suppose I really ought not to mention it, but it's the only place I'm ever likely to be published alongside Adrian Plass. I've also written two books for BRF, but there isn't much chance of retiring on the royalties. Both are in their People's Bible Commentary series, the first being on the book of Revelation, and the second on Paul's captivity epistles. I'm currently revising the Revelation book. If you want to know more about BRF, here's a link to their web site . Feel free to order either of my books.
My hobbies include bonsai trees, guitar playing and photography. Since all these are time-consuming, I don't get much practice, and am uniformly bad at all of them.
I'm married to Sarah, who is a consultant microbiologist at Stepping Hill Hospital in Stockport. If you're into things medical, the SHH Pathology web site is here, but it's probably out of date, since the hospital now has an intranet for staff only, and the public site seems to be rather neglected. If you're not interested in germs and stuff, don't bother, because despite the name, there are no gruesome pictures of post mortems. In fact, the site is pretty much out of date, since all the good stuff has moved onto the NHS intranet, no doubt in the interests of openness and general transparency.
We have three children, James, Laurence and Polly.
James is 21 and studies environmental science at Manchester University, in between being cool in a sort of low-key way, and playing lots of computer games.
Laurence is 17 and attends (and perhaps studies at) Xaverian Sixh Form College, Manchester.
Polly is 11 and goes to St. John's C of E Primary School in Heaton Mersey, Stockport. She definitely studies, but we are confident that this will not last.
We have a cat, Cleo who does lethal cat things in the dead of night, and sometimes delivers the victims to the front door. We also have a huge red-eared terrapin. We also have urban foxes, but we share these with a lot of other people, along with the hedgehogs, grey squirrels and even a jay - which isn't bad going for suburbia.
