When To Go - Early and Late Season Attractions

Apart from the attractions of the main season Provence is really beautiful in the early and late seasons.

In April, May and early June the hillsides abound with beautiful wildflowers.  Honeysuckle, cistus and lavender grow wild on the hillsides and the brilliant yellow broom contrasts vividly with the azure of the sea.  There are many interesting wildflowers to find.  The climate is just right for walking and for photographers the vistas are clear for superb landscape pictures.  Also it is less crowded at this time of year and thus easier to visit places of interest.

In September everything is mellow and ripe. Grapes hang heavy on the vines in the warm pink glow of early autumn. This light seems to be absorbed by the rock used to build the picturesque old houses which abound in the local villages.  Another treat for the photographers but also a delight for those who like to sit in the street side bars and restaurants and just soak up the atmosphere.

September is also the time of the grape harvest and wine fairs when the local shops and supermarkets have some amazing wine bargains.
