The East Midlands Orienteering Association is responsible for local orienteering on behalf of BOF and has been trying to promote the development of orienteering with the Leicestershire Orienteering Club.
In the last year we have had an initiative from the Northamptonshire County Council with the backing of The Sports Council, and from this there has been a coaching course and a mapping project of five minor areas. So if nothing else, there are a considerable number of organisations involved!
It has become clear that there is an opportunity to coordinate these activities and perhaps get a series of local events together. If we can get the necessary backing, there may be the possibility of a local club reforming.
The old club, Nene Valley Orienteers, folded about four years ago and the members remaining mainly went to Leicestershire O C. The maps were eventually passed onto EMOA and these are held by the EMOA Mapping Officer (Peter Hornsby, details of these maps are shown below. EMOA have not managed to trace the majority of the equipment, as yet.
For the future we would like to see the list of events (not included in this WWW version, as now out of date) extended to include input from the neighbouring clubs please. Also let us know of your ideas for the project. Volunteers for any help would be much appreciated.
