Special care must be taken to ensure an exact register of colours. On a map printed in several colours the course planner must have the opportunity to check the register via superimposed crosses in the different colours. The maximum acceptable error is 0.2mm
All colours to be used and exactly superimposed.
Defined as point symbol 900.0, can be drawn with any drawing tool.
This is a rotatable symbol, it can be rotated with the direction tool and will rotate with the map if the “include symbols” box is checked when the map is turned.
Care when drawing is needed, a click will place the symbol; a click with drag will rotate the symbol in the direction of the drag. To correct this, redraw carefully. Don Scarrott has written a utility that straightens all rotated symbols.
OCAD automatically adds this symbol to all colour separations (six including purple) by using colour 14 - all colour separations. If you use another colour, including grey, you will need to alter the colour table to include a 100 in the row for that colour.
This mark is used by the printer to align and check each printing plate.
Ideally use one in each corner, beyond the trim line, and one within the map area.
1) Do not rely solely on a colour segment for alignment, put at least one cross on the map face.
2) Commercial printers have a habit of removing the registration crosses from the printing plates, thinking that they are for their own benefit. Include an instruction on your specification to the printer that these should remain.
